Help Please: Can't Get Going

Hello,

I posted this also in the General Forum, and apologize for the double posting, but I'm a bit desperate with this. Hope you'll forgive it. I'm assuming that it's likely different folks read different Forums, possibly


New HP PC of a few weeks, running Windows7

Last night, inadvertently hit the AC power strip on/off button that the PC is plugged into.

Seems like the power strip being turned off, while PC was running, shouldn't be any big deal. We certainly have power outages also during the winter.

Turned it back on, turned the PC back on, and get that blue screen that has the
recovery option like F10=Setup, F11=System Recovery, etc.

Nothing works.

The keyboard does absolutely nothing.
Surprisingly, even the caps light won't come on, but perhaps the PC has to be actually functioning for this to work ?

Also tried, many time, to start the PC holding down F8 during the start.
Also tried pressing F8 on and off several times during the restart.
Nothing changes.
Still only that blue screen.

Pressing any of the option F keys during the restart process, or afterwards, does nothing.

Tried the keyboard in another USB slot with no change.

Pressing the power on/off button on the computer itself will not turn off the PC
once it has been pressed to turn it (back) on.

No restore, recovery, or W7 were shipped with the PC.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Have you tried another keyboard?
What do you mean, does it stop at the BIOS (Blue) screen asking for input or is it frozen there ( i don't suppose you can really tell)?

Also, power outages can be a serious potential problem, PC' s don't like just being turned off like that, hence "Shutdown". If power outages are prolific in your area, i advise buying some sort of protection against that.

Can't get passed it.
Have tried the F* startup routines, etc.
No luck doing it several ways.
Pressing the other options on this frozen screen does nothing.

No, I haven't tried another keyboard.

Do you think it's a likely problem ?

Anything is likely with computers LOL!
First things first, change the keyboard batteries the fact that no CAPS light is showing says there's a power failure somewhere, might be the batteries, might be the USB port, might be the keyboard not playing with the PC???? Who knows!, if no dice, try another keyboard. If that doesn't work, try tew's suggestion of repair installation over at the other thread.

It might be worth asking a mod to close this thread as the other has replies too and it's just me here.

Although a PC should survive an external power outage, (However caused), without issue , and many often do, due to the nature of the system there is always a small chance that some component will be at a critical point and fail.

This sort of failure can be a complex issue to diagnose, often involving the removal and replacement of components, there are members here who will guide you in this, but as the system is new and should be under warranty this type of diagnosis will sometimes be seen by the vendor as a breech of the terms of warranty

I would personally suggest that you, if possible, contact the vendor with regards to them repairing the system. a fault caused by a random power outage should be included in the warranty.

Got it going, and want to relate how, in case anyone else runs across this.

HP rep, In India I think, walked me thru the following steps:

Unplug Everything, incl keyboard, mouse, and power strip
Hold PC ON button for 20 seconds, even though there is no power to PC
Re-Plug everything.
That's it.

Apparently the holding on the (dead) PC On button resets "something" ?
