Help please.

Hello, I wonder if someone can help me fix a really annoying problem. This has persisted for many months now and I would really like to fix it. If I am on a webpage (say ebay for instance). If I go to click on an item, as my cursor arrow goes to the link...suddenly the webpage will shoot upwards or downwards. If I then try again the same thing happens. I have to try and sneak up on the link and click instantly before it has a chance to move again.
This does not happen all of the time, sometimes things will be OK for days. If it helps anybody solve this gremlin, I have notice that sometimes when I hold the cursor over a link, the arrow suddenly turns from an arrow to a circle with a dot inside..

Check control panel mouse settings, if nothing there then it is in the browser as 'caret focus' or similar...

Is this only happening in Chrome or in all browsers like Internet explorer ?
Being this is a laptop are you using the touch pad or a wired or wireless mouse ?

I do not know if it would happen in another browser as I have never tried another. I am using a cordless mouse with adongle type usb device.

Okay see if this helps,
Open Chrome,
Ignore the instant savings pointer Privacy safe guard but please do post your extensions/ add-ons you have installed here,

After the above is done
Close Chrome,
Then click Start and type in the search box
internet explorer,
Click on the suggestion and test using it,

Some mice have a 'move pointer to the default ..." button or location.

This is in reference to what DMHotz already said. Othgerwise, look in your Internet Options -> Advance tab for caret settings and tick or untick them

Test

You might also check your batteries in the mouse.
And see if the driver is up-to-date. Although the driver only provides the extra features for a mous, the std MS driver will work without the 'extras'

Have done as Thrashzone suggested, have to wait and see if this has had any affect. I don't think Chrome has an Internet Options tab. You will have to forgive me, I am not very proficient with computers. Some of what has been said goes way over my head.

I did notice in Firefox it has a auto scroll feature that was quite annoying,

Doesn't look like it's a built in feature of Chrome but in the app store there seems to be one if you install it,

So yep it looks like a feature of your mouse,
Please post the exact brand and model mouse and we might be able to pin point the exact instruction to disable the feature,

Hi, just flipped over the mouse...never considered it might be a problem with the mouse itself. It is a really basic mouse the company is Argos, the model no is MR-0616T. Hope that helps....many thanks.
