Welcome to SF!

This is going to sound obvious, but did you try refreshing the desktop [F5]?

If they are still there, post back and we'll dig further.

Is there anything actually located at that file path location? I'm kind of surprised that that error didn't provide a means of deleting those itself. That is what usually happens when a file isn't found.

Some things to try. First, navigate to C:\users\(Username)\Desktop and see if the files are listed there, and whether you can delete them there. OR Download the free LockHunter and right click one of the files and choose What is locking this file? See if it finds any processes locking the file. Even if not, you can choose to have it delete the file. Hopefully that will work. Also, right click the file and see if it will bring up the properties, if so, there should be a file path there that may help you track it down (assuming it's not just desktop). A Guy

Hi i ran the tool provided to unlock the file, but it is not locked nor will it let me delete it. IU went to computer-c drive-users-and the file is listed there also, although i cannot delete it there either.
the file path is C\users\clive ranger(computer name)\desktop\out.php_member=arrapante. It was part of a download of a media website, i think it was advertising. I deleted all the advertising files but these stayed. You can open them and go to prooperties but there is nothing in them they are empty.

Odd, boot to safe mode and try to delete them from there. Try dragging them to the recycle bin as well, rather than right click and delete. Download this brilliant little program, no installation necessary:

Filekiller

And try that. A Guy

Couple of things you can try if nothing else is working.

Open a command prompt and navigate to the desktop directory (C:\users\<username>\desktop), then type dir. Then use the del command to delete the files, using the exact name that they are displayed with via the dir command.

You could also run CCleaner, run both regular and registry cleanup.

Lol, Bill beat me to it. I'll add to his method a bit. Open task manager and right click on explorer.exe and choose End process. Then open an advanced command prompt and delete the file using Bill's suggestion. After deletion, open task manager and click File> New task> and type explorer.exe and click OK (or reboot PC). A Guy

P.S. This was a torrent download correct? Your posts reminded me I'd seen this before and the command prompt was the way to do it, but unlike Bill, I had to google the terms :)

Found this page that explains it fairly well. Just when you open the command prompt, use this method:

Start> In search box type cmd> Right click on cmd.exe in results above and choose Run as administrator.

The rest of the instructions on this link should be clear. But you want to do as Bill says:

Open a command prompt and navigate to the desktop directory (C:\users\<username>\desktop), then type dir. Then use the del command to delete the files, using the exact name that they are displayed with via the dir command.

OK, saw that upload. Try taking ownership of the file on the desktop, if possible. Heres how.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html

Then try deleting the file.

As for opening the cmd window, just press SHIFT key and hold it down, while right clicking on a blank area on the desktop, then click on "Open command prompt here". That'll open the desktop directory in the cmd window. After that type dir, and tell us what it says.
