Help: These files can't be opened. Your Internet...

Ok, I tried that and it gives me this:

x:\Sources>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart windows and run sfc again.

I try this three times anyway, then rebooted and tried again twice after the first time it prompted me to do this.

Now windows won't let me download anything, and I hate doing restores because I lose all my copy once stuff on WMC. If I could keep my copy protected stuff on WMC, then I will just do a full wipe and re-install. After this last time google chome lost the ability to play sound on video. Then I uninstalled, then tried to reinstall chome and it fails to install. I also can't get flash on IE because it fails to install. Things that should be working are dropping like flies. Not sure if it is relevant, but I boot from the OCZ, and record to the HDD. So even if I wipe, the video files are still there, it just says that I can only view them on the computer they were recorded. (which it is, but whatever, I guess I'm just losing the copy protect key on wipe)

I hope I have provided enough info for help. If I need to check, change or respond back with more info that's fine. I really want to get this working. And I really appreciate the help.

Were you able to actually run the sfc /scannow? I am a bit confused. What is the status of the machine? What do you mean that you are unable to download anything?

If you want to avoid doing a restore, and you are worried about losing your info, I would suggest doing a repair install. I recommend doing this ASAP before more damage is done to the system and you are unable to get into Windows to run it.

No, I wasn't able to run the sfc. It gave me the second line after trying to run with CMD under startup repair. I tried to run sfc multiple times, then rebooted as it said, then tried to run sfc again. Then, it still gave me the error message above. Tried to reboot one more time just to see if the reboot didn't change what it needed to the first time. Then tried to run sfc one last time, and it still wouldn't do it, it still gave me the error message above.

The machine is usable, I can boot into windows, and I can use WMC. I can use IE. and could use Chome until I uninstalled, and tried to re-install. During the re-install it fails.

I can download, but I can't install. Every time I try to install something it fails. It has done this before, and the only way to fix it was restoring the backup. I know that's not real descriptive, but its really all I know to say.

I'm not really worried about losing my info per say, just my copy protect licenses. I'm just not sure if I can back those up separately, and I have about 50 hours worth of shows with the copy once flag.

I did try to install ubuntu 10.04 on the machine the first time, before getting the W7 license, and it failed right out of the gate. I was never able to use it. However, I did have a partition for it. I used W7 to delete the partition but I could never merge it with the w7 partition because it was before the w7 partition. I didn't know if this would be relevant, but I thought I would add it anyway.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help.

The repair install would keep your licenses intact. It just allows you to install Windows again while preserving the users' files and programs. If you want to try, you can do the sfc /scannow through Windows using the tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html and see if your problem is fixed. Then you would not have to do the repair install if you are uncomfortable trying that. Edit: You may have to run the system file check in safe mode with command prompt to get it to work. Good luck!

Hope I can continue to be of help.

Edit: I would still recommend doing the standalone Microsoft System Sweeper to make sure your problem is not caused by a virus.

So, I have tried to download the file sweeper and it gives me c++ errors. In fact, everything that I have downloaded(reinstall of chrome, MS sweeper, avast) have all given me errors of varying varieties. I'm going to try and reinstall windows using your suggested method and see how that goes. Thanks again for the help.

Also, Now I can't reinstall windows because my SSD is only 60 GB and it says "there is not enough disk space" to do the upgrade. Is there a work around for that?

Can I create a backup, then wipe the full system, reinstall, then restore my files from that backup? I know that the times I have restored from image it has kept my WMC licenses.

If you create a system image, you can mount it as a virtual disk and get your files and licenses back if you know where the licenses are located.

I still haven't fixed it, but I have just let it be over the holidays. I haven't really had time to diag and fix what is going on. But I think it my be an issue with the SSD losing sectors of memory, because apparently this is a problem with the OCZ drive I bought. I'm going to replace it with my old lappy drive and see if that fixes it. I do appreciate the help you've given.

Try contacting the SSD manufacturer for any troubleshooting steps they might have, as well. If it is a known problem, they may have solutions for it. Let us know either way. :)

Ok, so I wanted to post an update as a thank you for all the awesome you have given me. I ended up updating the firmware on the SSD (OCZ vortex plus in case anyone else has issues.) and reinstalled windows from scratch. knock on wood, it's been two weeks and I haven't had any issues at all yet. From reading the OCZ forum it seems like the SSD firmware was having issues with corrupted data. Anyway, it appears to be sorted out, and I really appreciate the help you guys chimed in with. Especially you writhziden.

Yeah, the OCZ drives have had a lot of issues from what I've seen in the crashes section of these forums. I'm glad to see the company is starting to get some of those problem sorted out. I'm especially glad that you were able to obtain help with your drive. :) You are welcome for the assistance.

I got that error i restarted computer still did not work then i renamed the file and it worked perfectly

My Computer My Computer

OS
64bit.
Problem : your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened
solution:
1. Create another user (admin example A)
2. Switch to the newly-created user
3. Run regedit (typing it in run)
4. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
5. Right-click -> export to C:\ drive as .reg
6. Switch back to your original account
7. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Internet Settings (
delete internet setting)

8. Run the exported .reg
9. Restart.

I could not apply this solution because i could not create a new admin user in normal and safe mode both. If i can, i hope this solution will work for me. I tried to create in control panel. Is there any other method to create a new user profile?
