Help w/HP printer re: alignment after cartridge change

So, my HP OfficeJet 5740 comes with a 'feature' that whenever you swap an ink cartridge, the printer tells you that an alignment needs to be done. Both on the printer AND on the computer. This is kind of annoying, but wouldn't be so bad if this could be disabled. But no.

I don't want to have to do an alignment each time I swap a cartridge - I don't care if it only uses a small amount of ink. I was figuring that I could just stop the message from popping up on my computer by finding that service in the TM, and going to the location, and renaming the file. But that pop-up does not appear in the TM.

Was wondering if someone has any ideas as to where I can find if it, if not in the TM.

The thing is, you do need to align the printer after replacing cartridges to ensure the best possible printouts. Not sure why your HP automatically prompts you (which is what it says it will do in your manual). The manual for my HP OJ 7525 just tells the user to run the alignment after inserting a new cartridge. I can only guess people were calling tech support to complain of poor printouts and the solution was to align the printer. So automating the process saved HP and users time.

Just let it be, otherwise, your printing quality may be affected.
I just got an Officejet J3680 for free (one buddy thought it didn't work, it was the cartridges... XD), I'm just using the W7 generic drivers, but the printer itself (even with the PC shut down) asks for crtridge alignment, which is done automatically. Now, honestly, I still have a Deskjet D1400, and this Officejet has stunning printing quality, all because of cartridge alignment.

Agree with the others. I would not attempt to disable that function.
Doing so is liable to result in poor quality documents, increased ink consumption or "breaking" something.
(It probably runs from the device firmware, not as a Windows service. So I do not think there's a way to safely disable it.)

I suggest that you leave it be.

That's exactly how it works because if you remove and replace the same cartridge, the printer knows it is the same cartridge and will not prompt to run the alignment.
