I have just installed Windows 7 professional on my new built machine. This morning I have been copying over files and documents from my old OS (win XP on a different drive), to my current OS.

I have another version of windows 7 professional on another hard drive in this machine, but decided to do a clean install on a seperate drive, (the one I am using) after building my computer.

Two things I have noticed.

1) All of the files and documents that I copied to my win 7 OS on this hard drive (C:) were duplicated on my other win 7 OS on drive D: and the documents that were on that OS have disappeared.

2) I was astonished to find that my free hard disk space on C: had suddenly depleted to just 24 GB (on a 250 GB drive with virtually nothing else installed on it.

Then I found this (picture below)

My user profile is using up almost 73 GB of space  . Any ideas what has caused this, and how to reduce the size back to normal please.

Update:

I have noticed that the documents I have copied has been copied at least 5 times to 5 locations.

Desktop/Libraries/Documents/My Documents
Desktop/Gra/My Documents (twice)
Computer/Local Disk C:/Documents and Settings/Gra/My Documents (twice)

Also all of my downloaded programs have also been copied to two locations.

Desktop/Gra/Downloads
Computer/Local Disk C:/Documents and Settings/Gra/Downloads

The downloads probably take up about 30Gb each so this will be a lot of my used space.

Umm... "C:/Documents and Settings/" is a junction there is nothing there. And Libraries is just a view it doesn't store anything. Did you alter the permissions of the drive or folders in anyway?

No permissions were changed, I just changed ownership of certain folders to me so that I could access them.

That is changing permissions. No doubt you opened junction points. Like Documents and Settings.
