I downloaded some mkv files from the same site that I always downloaded before. But all of a sudden some of the new mkv's that I downloaded can't be renamed or even deleted. Please help out. I only use VLC player for watching movies. Is something wrong with my computer or with those files? I found no problem if I play those files, only that I want to rename them and delete some. Please help out.

Hi,
I have had this before and it was caused by the Thumbs.db Quick way was to change the view to List then I could Move the files.
I ended up disabling Thumbs from this Tutorial as I use alot of Movie Files it also speeded up my explorer.

Quick and simple way to remove unwanted .mkv files

:D For anyone who has the same problem I had, 'Can't delete .mkv files', this is the easiest and quickest solution I found, that doesn't require uninstall or install of any programs, so I wanted to share it:-

1) Open command prompt

2) Go to the folder where the file is located (use command cd foldername to enter in to a folder and cd// to come out of a folder) and type del filename.mkv don’t press ENTER. (You may also be able to drag and drop the file to the command prompt box or copy and paste the file name. Helpful when it is a long random name.)

3) Open windows task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and go to processes tab and locate explorer.exe, right click on it and select end process (not end process tree). Don’t close the task manager.

4) Go back to command prompt and press enter. Now the file is deleted. Repeat this for each file.

5) Go to task manager again and select file>New Task and type explorer.exe and press ok

You can now close the command prompt box and your explorer should be back up and running and the unwanted .mkv files should be deleted. :geek:

It is because the name of your folder is too long or incorrect. Just change the name of the folder and all locked files inside are now usable.
