Solved Help with editing/deleting text in window

NoelDP, thanks for helping out. I got a PM from UsernameIssues that he forwarded my situation to a member who is a "guru" in analyzing these logs. Thanx again.

Hopefully this is what you are looking for:

I guess you're stuck with me, instead of a guru :)

The CheckSUR scan is clear - the CBS log is also mostly clear.

The background problems I mentioned are relatively minor - and I can't see them affecting your initial problems here...
For the record, here's what I've seen

From your latest log...

Code:
2014-05-01 11:47:40, Info CBS Session: 30369133_3557811773 initialized by client WindowsUpdateAgent.
2014-05-01 11:47:40, Info CBS Identity missing version. [HRESULT = 0x80070057 - E_INVALIDARG]
2014-05-01 11:47:40, Error CBS Failed to shred identity: Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-LanguagePack [HRESULT = 0x80070057 - E_INVALIDARG]
(it's the only error in 1138 lines of log)

That error is repeated a number of time in the earlier log - and is the only problem showing there.

I don't know if anyone's already asked this (I haven't read the thread from the start) - but a look at your Event Logs may help...

Please open Event Viewer
In the left pane, navigate to the Windows Logs
right-click on Applications and select 'Save all events as...' save as Apps.evtx
repeat for the System logs - save as Sys.evtx
Compress both files, and attach to your reply or upload to your reply

You seem to be running AVG and ZoneAlarm?
ZoneAlarm is causing a number of problems at shutdown with what appear to be memory leaks - I really think you'd be better off without it, and simply using the Windows Firewall. If you also have the ZA anti-virus installed, then it's essential that it's removed, as it will conflict with AVG.
I'm not a great fan of AVG nowadays, either - for the moment at least, it may be better to remove that and install MSE.

NoelDp, excellent points. ZA is the firewall, hmmm memory leaks?? I'd switch to MS fw but I've read it is really "low-end" in protection. I could be wrong, I've been wrong before- just ask my wife- LOL!!

AVG is my only av, I've read about having more than one running is BAD, I sense you had AVG but now don't, do you want to share your opinion? Had MSE installed while we were going thru this situation, seemed ok to me. Just trying to get the most for the FREE buck.

As you can tell, all of my anti-everything is free- hate paying for something I can use for free. Had a very bad experience with a paid McAfee a long time ago and said that was it- I'm done. That's why I use these sites to figure out and learn how to fix these problems- I do donate to these sites because the help is invaluable. Thanks

(remind your wife that you married her :D)

I used to actually sell AVG - on the basis that it was at the time one of the leanest and meanest AV's available, and it was my own choice. It's since suffered from Norton/McAfee-esque bloat, and seems to be also suffering from a number of incompatibilities. I no longer sell any AV, and recommend MSE to all my clients except those I know are a) capable of handling a more complex product and b) likely to need the extra level of protection.

MSE may not be the 'total security blanket' that others claim to be, but it is sufficient for 99+% of users - who never go near the darker layers of the internet. I use it myself, in conjunction with the free MalwareBytes, and very rarely have cause to complain despite going to some pretty insalubrious places! It's saved my backside a couple of times, opening what I thought looked like proper PDF attachments to emails - although it didn't flag them as malware, they were un-openable, and when I uploaded them to VirusTotal.com it turned out they were infected... (full system scans followed very rapidly!)

I like Noel use MSE and it appears that a lot of people also use it.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Market share

On 29 September 2010, a year after its initial release, Microsoft announced that MSE had more than 30 million users.[66] The Security Industry Market Share Analysis report of June 2011, published by OPSWAT, describes it as one of the most popular AV products in the world,[67] with 10.66 percent of the global market[67]:5 and 15.68 percent of the North American market.[67]:4 The same report shows Microsoft as the number one AV vendor in North America with 17.07 percent market share,[67]:3 and the number four AV vendor worldwide.[67]:2

I use MSE in conjunction with Malwarebytes Anti Malware Pro.
