Hi Guys

Ive got a funny feeling my GPU is not quite working as it should. I have a GT 430 however the highest score i can get in WEI is 5 for my Aero graphics whereas im able to archive 6.5 for 3d. Any ideas what might be causing the aero to be so low????

Ive been looking at this for a week or so but dont seem to be able to get any advice as to what could be causing this.

Hello GMC82. Welcome to the Forum.

Have you installed the latest drivers for the GT430 from nVidia?

Did you just install this video card recently? Or did you just install W7 recently?

Hi, yeah mate im running the most recent at the moment, i even tried going down to the versions of driver advised on certain sites the 3d rating changes slightly but the aero never changes from 5.

The whole machine is new i had it around two weeks ago. Ive replaced the GPU since ive had it as i was getting a lot of blue screens since the replacement no blue screens just the low score.

The GT430 is a low-end card, you should not expect any high performance with it :)

I understand the Gt 430 is a low end card but should be more than adequate at hitting above six in the wei scores. Ive been on multiple forums where people with a lower spec machine is getting better scores than mine i.e. ive seen an i3 processor with a gt 430 hitting 6.5 aero and 6.6 3d. The machine also had less RAM than mine.

It should. By running those tests you have determined that there is not a major hardware issue.

So as Yowanvista has said, that may be the best you can get with that card installed in your system.

You might try a clean install of the graphics driver.
You do this by:

  • Uninstalling the graphics driver and all graphics utilities (PhysX and 3D) from Control Panel > Remove Programs - don't reboot yet.
  • Then delete (or move) the nVidia folder from the C: drive
  • Reboot the computer, Windows will find your video card and install it's own generic WDDM1.1 driver > you will be asked to reboot > do so.
  • Once back on the desktop you can then install the most current nVidia driver for that card clean.
See if that improves anything.

Thats strange the {codes} normally indiciate some kind of corruption according to Nvidia, they say that the device should have name listings next to all of these values rather than the {Code}[1].

Just a thought, your PSU is dual 12V rails and it may not be up to running your card efficiently. Check the label to see what its MAX 12V amp is. I would recommend upgrading to at least a 650W PSU to get you some headroom. A single 12V rail is easier to manage.

Oh, the 270.61 driver has been the best thus far.

Cheers Britton ill download tha driver now, if it is a PSU issue the company i got it from will be dealing with it. I originally selected a 650W PSU in my setup but there system told me not to go for that and to only select a 450W. My max power currently should be 373W.

OK, that is your MAX total output, the label or your spec sheet should tell you the MAX amps for 3.3V, 5.0V, and 12V.

Hi Britton

3.3V = 24A, 5V = 15A, 12V1 = 18A and 12V2 = 18A

Hope this is what you were after.

I found this review of the 430. It could explain some things. If you have your documentation for the GT430 you could check to see if this guy is correct about the card needing 22A per 12v rail:

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but beware., October 23, 2010
By F.J. Roman (USA) -
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo..._bdg_help?ie=UTF8&nodeId=14279681&pop-up=1#RN
Amazon Verified Purchase

This review is from: Evga GeForce GT 430 1 GB DDR3 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card 01G-P3-1430-LR (Electronics)

I have been using this nice, little but powerful, video/graphics card for just a week. It works very nicely with my old, and not so powerful Dell computer.

The Evga GeForce GT 430 works great with the CRPG games I play. Examples of these games are the Medieval series, Oblivion, The Witcher, etc. I have not tried it on any of the new games that require higher end video cards.

You might be wondering why I wrote "but beware." I will explain.

- Nvidia's website clearly show the card needs at least 300 watts to run properly (recommended).
- However, none of the websites I visited (Nvidia included)looking for information and/or reviews regarding this video card offered you what I consider a critical piece of information about the card.
- When I received the card, and before I opened the box, I decided to read every bit of information to make sure my computer and the card are compatible.
- Sure enough, I found the one piece of information none of the websites I looked at included.
- The Evga GeForce GT 430 needs at least 22 amps per 12-volt rail.
- I got lucky because after opening my computer, looking at information on the power source, and surfing the net for formulas to find out the amps for my computer, I found that my computer has or produces exactly 22 amps per 12-volt rail.

Summary: Very nice, little but powerful, card. Not the top of the line as far as power is concerned, but good enough for the common gamer who owns a non-gaming computer.

However this review differs, saying it needs 18A per 12v rail:
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1436/2/

That may be due to different requirements for different graphics card manufacturers. The GT430 is the video engine made by nVidia, but the graphics card is manufactured by different vendors (ASUS, EVGA, etc) and their specs could differ for the same video engine.

It is a possibility.
However the common symptoms with an underpowered card are TDR errors, bluescreens, various video glitches, errata & artifacts. We don't usually see poor performance as the issue, but it is possible.

Is it possible to borrow a larger power supply from someone to test this before you go out and buy something?
