Help with install

Hi, I have Vista 64 Ult. I have the Win 7 RTM. I want to upgrade Vista to Win7 Ult 64 from the RTM. The stores are sold out around here so my plan is to update then buy when it gets in stock. The way I want to do it is to have a newly reformatted HD. How can I do this?
Using IMG Burn, it doesn't allow me to create an image file that is bootable? I downloaded the MS USB tool to allow it to install from the USB, but that also didn't work. Apparently, the USB files are not written as bootable.

Any help greatly appreciated...

Where did you get the RTM version? If you have RTM, you should have a key.

There are tons of guides on how to make a bootable USB - here's one:

The key is not the problem, the problem is trying to install on a newly formatted HD. I can install the RTM, but then it has all my old files on the HD. I want a clean HD with only the New OS Win 7 on it.

If you have RTM, you do not need to purchase a retail copy. RTM=retail. Install using your RTM key.

I edited my original post and provided a link to making a usb bootable flash drive. There are also guides on how to install Windows 7, including a good one on the Microsoft website. It's a custom install you want.

A valid Win7 Ultimate RTM should already be a .iso file ready to burn to DVD with ImgBurn
