help with new mother board!!!!!!!

So I just bought a new mother board for my dell studio 1458 laptop and it was a direct replacement except the graphics card is different. I put everything back together, and went to boot. The screen stayed a dark black green flashed a couple times and it beeped at me a few time. When it did come up, the screen was really dark, and it came up as trying to fix windows from not booting. Also during this time, the CPU fan was screaming. What's going on here? Did I miss a step?

Sounds like something might not be seated all the way...worth double checking.

Ok now the dell logo is comming up and it says boot windows normally or startup repair but CPU fan is still screaming and screen is still really dark. To where its extreamly hard to see and hard to tell if its on. Ima make sure I connected screen right and then try and hit boot windows normally.

Alright so windows started normally but screen is still dark and CPU fan is still screaming! I'll try a BIOS update later.

EBay. I'm pretty sure it was used. But had no visual artifacts. CPU is at Max frequency. Do think a BIOS update will fix the screen?

Then I'm with Bassfisher. Double and triple check your connections. Those tiny connectors on the ribbon cables need to snap positively into the sockets. I always feel like I'm going to break something because you have to push so hard to get them to go.

Already did. All are in place. There's only 3 connections.

Could it be that Windows is choking on the new graphics because it is trying to load the old driver?
How does the BIOS screen look? Normal?

Are you using your old CPU heatsink & fan, or is it one that came with the board?
If old, did you properly seat the CPU, use thermal paste, and properly seat the heatsink and fan?

My old one... yes and yes and yes. I'm just worried about the screen for now.... after I can see the screen, I can figure out what the CPU is doing

Ok so problem with screen is the one wire strand that I'm assuming to be the power wires. Weather there plug in or out it makes no difference. So ima try my stock board again.

So you have a loose wire/bundle? And you don't know for sure if it's the screens power connection?

And it doesn't matter whether or not if it's plugged in because it's still failing regardless?

I flashed the new BIOS and it did nothing with the CPU and screen. So I'm betting that the board is messed up. Ima swap mine out cause I need a computer and exchange this one. So here's my situation tho. I have 512mb 500/700mhz at I card. The one I want is 1gb 675/800mhz. I'm planning on ocing it too. But do you think that's worth the time and money of exchanging it ans getting née one or just get money back?
