Solved Help with "Windows 7 build 7601 not genuine" message

I've searched in the c drive and nothing in the program files folders. I've never had anything like this happen before. I haven't moved anything either. Clueless!

What AV do you use. Run a full system wide scan.

Followup with a full Malwarebytes scan.
report any findings.

YOu simply need to use Telephone activation - I can't see any problems in the report



telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

Yep Noel this is what I had to do with an edition when the original mobo died and I transferred it (the activation) to a laptop.

I think SlartyBart mentioned a Malwarebytes scan and I can't remeber but SuperAntiSpyware is worth a try.
Malwarebytes < free one

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware! < also free one both are quick.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

.....I have re-entered the key on the COA sticker and so far, everything is back to normal.

Perhaps this thread should be marked solved and a new thread opened to work on the mysterious program disappearance. Your call elby, but someone following this thread for a "Not Genuine" issue won't be helped much by the other issue.

I am also having this problem

I am also getting the popup that says Windows is not genuine after an HDD upgrade. It is coming up more and more frequently. I have "successfully" activated it over the phone and over the internet. The registry shows the correct key as being installed, but if I go to Windows system settings, it shows the wrong product ID, no matter how many times I change it.

I have a screenshot of the Windows is not genuine message on my screen at the same time as The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool saying it is genuine. (See attached.)

Does it take you to the activation screen or to a Microsoft page? It the latter, read the page and follow any links. There might be a MS Fix it for your issue.

Yep good move Bill my first port of call is a Google on those errors and one can usually come up with something from Microsoft or that Windows site as well.
