Solved Hi i can not shrink my C: Drive

When i am triying to shrink my c drive it is not shrinking

That's because there is a logical drive attached to C:\ (D:\Fun)

Try using something like Paragon to adjust the partition.

Any good Partition Manager would do that for you without destroying your data. I personally use Acronis Disk Director Suite Boot Disk.

Use the Partition Wizard boot disk which is the only partition manager which will not fail during resizing causing total data loss. But back up your files anyway.

I am not sure that all the previous recommendations explain the problem clearly since the note on the page indicates an unmovable file might just be the problem. If this is the case then something like Defraggler (free defrag software) might move the file and hence the partition can be resized via Disk Management. The problem remains however as to how to use this available space and this is where the previous replies will be necessary. The OS Disk Management cannot alter partitions with as much versatility as dedicated programs (using free space between partitions) and the solutions given in previous posts will be necessary.

I was always under the impression that the Partition Managers are able to handle the immovable files while quite often defragmenters are not able to unless it is boot-time defragmentation. Partition Managers work before the starting of Windows. But my impression may be wrong.

You are correct, Wanchoo.

What once required a boot time defragger like PerfectDisk to struggle to move a System file can now easily and safely be done by Partition Wizard boot CD Resize function which checks the disk continuously as it works.

We have countless thousands of complicated partitioning operations helped with here which back this claim. The others may fail. PW CD will not.

Defraggler solved my immovable file problem. There are two separate issues. Why one cannot resize and what to do with the partitions afterwards. Just pointing out the problems involved.
