OK BUT WHAT ABOUT EARLIER DOWNLOADED FILES :( HOW TO FIND THEM

Don't worry about them, just download them again to to the Downloads folder and make sure you click Save at the bottom of your screen, and not Run.

What about UAC? Maybe your User Account Control Settings are causing your trouble. You might try disabling UAC (Control Panel, User Accounts) and see if the 'New Folder' is visable under Program Files. If so, copy the whole folder and paste it to a safer area on your hard disk. Remember to reset UAC (if you use that feature) and re-hide protected and system files.

In future, I would recommend NOT writing to C:\Program Files. Newer versions of Windows really frown on that.

Can you copy the 'New Folder' OUT of Program Files to another location? If so, right-click the folder and select properties. That should show you the folder size and contents. And there are two settings under Explorer Folder Options, 'Don't show hidden files ...' AND 'Hide protected operating system files.' By default, I recommend leaving these items checked, but for now, until you get this cleared up ...

Let me know how you make out with the properties, if it shows files within the folder and folder/file sizes.

It seems to me then that what you probably did was download the files and RUN them rather than SAVE them.

So, the New Folder still under your Program Files folder (you copied rather than moved, right?), THAT folder has properties indicating it contains files and a size greater than 0 bytes? There has to someting amiss in your explanation of events. Either the folder contains files or it doesn't.

Not sure what else to suggest.

Best Wishes,
Rªnce

I wonder if there are file remnants in your Temporary Internet files. Have you cleared that Cache? That or some other temp folder ... You could probably just delete the two copies of the New Folder. It's unclear to where the files were downloaded to. You never mentioned if you use UAC.

Plenty of posts suggesting NOT downloading to Programs Folder and/or system folders, so I won't mention it again. Looks like if you want copies of the files you will have to download them again.

You might try navigating to C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\Temp and clean or at least check the size of files there.

Good luck,
R-

If there are no files in the folder you created and they are not in your temporary internet files folder, then you must accept you don't have them and download them again.

Failing that, there's not much more we can do to to help you.

Your downloads are there. From now on use your user directory to save your downloads, there is a dedicated "Downloads" folder in your user directory.

Also stop the excessive use of the emote icons, its annoying.

Maybe they got "deleted" and are in recycler on that drive? They would take up physical space there, since they could theoreretically be restored from there. Have you checked your Recycle Bin?

What are the extensions of the files you believe you've put into the target folder?

Just to get yet one more view of that directory, have you tried going to a DOS command prompt, navigating (using the CD command) to the presumed target folder, and then typing DIR? Are there also zero files?

Maybe it's something you're doing in the download process itself that would explain where they really went... if not into the folder you think you're sending them to. Can you repeat the process for just one of these downloaded files, and take a screenshot of each dialog window as you go through it? If you post that sequence of steps we can probably provide a useful answer or suggestion.
