Is there a way to hide or remove the desktop icon on a folder showing on the desktop so that the folder name only shows? I don't need to have the icons showing on the desktop , just the folder name.

I do not want this option anywhere other than the desktop.

Thanks

SFM

I haven't found anything to do it. Closest I've come is selecting all desktop icons, then holding down Control while rotating the mouse wheel. You can make 'em small.

I think they are either hidden or showing. If hidden, you don't get the text either.
Other than hiding, the only "transparent" I found is to make the text background transparent. Not the folder image.

My solution to desktop icon hassles is not to have any icons on the desktop. Saves a lot of headaches.

Thanks, I have the same habit of almost never having any folders showing on my desktop either , but I need just this one on there temporarily.

I am surprised that so many users have their desktop cluttered with sometimes up to a hundred folder icons and files. What a mess!

I like everything nice and neat and organised

On so many pages the instructions to download specify "save on your desktop" that I bet many users think it won't work if they put it in a folder instead. :)

The Start Menu is such a pita I think a lot of people got in the bad habit of dragging shortcuts onto the desktop to avoid the anguish. Now with all the free launchers there's no need for it.

keep the folder in your users folder , create a shortcut for it and drag the shortcut to the start orb, this will pin it to the start menu. its only 2 clicks away then.

Another approach is right click menu on Desktop:
How to Add Any Application to the Windows Desktop Right-Click Menu - How-To Geek

Before Vista you had to write a shell extension dll to get the desktop right click. Vista and later there's a registry key as shown in the article.

Also there are free menu programs where you control-right click or some other modified mouse click on Desktop to get a list of your favorites pop up right next to the mouse cursor. Most of them allow you to list 10 or a dozen applications/folders to launch with a mouse click. You should be able to find on AutoHotkey forum or a download site like Softpedia.
