Hi,

for some reasons, while copying a 13 gb file over the network (accessed from \\servername\e$\ to my C drive, the CPU usage is going close to 100%.

When I look at task manager, I see System using more than 30% of the CPU, SMC.EXE is using between 15% and 18%...

Does anyone have an idea why system is taking that much CPU?

I tried disabling the antivirus to reduce the SMC.exe process, without success...

Looking for advices.

Thanks.

Dominic

I have also tried enabling the CCTP thing for the network card using netsh...

I would also turn off "tcp offload" for your nic.

what model NIC controller are you using?

what model NIC controller are you using?

I am using a Broadcom Netxtreme 57xx gigabit controller... I am reading everywhere that this setting should be turned on (recommended)...

I remember turning this off for certain applications on some 2003 servers, but on my workstation, I did not remember doing it. I will give this a shot and let you know how it turns out...

Thanks for the tip!

Ok i just tried the chimney disabled, and it actually decreased the network performance. The CPU is still maxing at 100%...

I have turned it back on, but.... i am now asking myself, maybe it is normal that the CPU usage is high when copying files over network...

How is it acting on your workstations guys?
