High Pitched Sound from Laptop

Hey everyone,

I started hearing a high pitched sound from the left side of my laptop.

This occurred when I connected my 2.4Ghz Logitech MX Performance mouse via the USB extender and my Logitech K810 Bluetooth Keyboard.

Before connecting these peripherals, everything was silent..I am totally stumped now..

Does noise stops when you disconnect the both mouse and keyboard. If possible then directly connect them to the system without using the USB extender and let us know if the noise occurs.

Also, if it is whirring noise then it could be from fan and you should check for vents to clear any dirt blocking the fan.

Yes, the noise stops when I disconnect the mouse and keyboard. I think the noise is from my Bluetooth and mouse receiver. Whenever I enable Bluetooth or plug m USB receiver in, I hear this sound. But when turning off the Bluetooth and taking the USB out, I also hear this sound, but less pronounced/hearable.

I cannot connect my mouse without the USB extender as the Bluetooth and 2.4Ghz interference will cause lag for my mouse. But for testing purposes, I did stick my USB receiver directly in the USB port and this faint "dit ditditdit dit dit" sounds also occurs (like a buzzing sound).

It comes from the right side of my laptop, and I can clear it is not something to do with the fan.

Thanks for your reply. Please let me know if the noise occurs when you connect either of the receiver in the USB port.

Please check with a different USB port for the receivers and let us know if the noise occurs there as well.

Also, if you connect different devices on the same USB port on the system does the system makes abnormal noise as well.

It could me when alot of the USB devices are connected to the system then fan runs at a faster speed to ensure proper heat temperature inside the system.

Have you ensure that the BIOS is updated for the system and all vents,fans are clear and free from dirt.

I am a professional Technician and have encountered high pitch noise many times. I've tried it all, change processor, change memory, fans, heat sink you name it. By accident I took a hard drive out of one laptop because of high pitch noise (Tested Perfectly 100% performance and health) put in another laptop and boom same high pitch noise. Same scenario with HP Desktop. It's the hard drive! Yay
Both machines did not have high pitch after replacing hard drive!

Just curious, but how does a supposedly noisy hard disk correlate with plugging in a Bluetooth receiver which then causes the noise? What do the two have to do with each other? I agree that hard disk bearings can make noises, but this seems to be directly related to the USB and Bluetooth receiver.

I'm all for solving the problem, but I'd hate for the OP to replace a hard disk if he/she doesn't have to.
