High Refresh Rate LCD/LED Monitors For Gaming

Ever since I retired my huge CRT monitor, I have been very unsatisfied with the performance of my 75Hz maximum LED monitor. Don't get me wrong, it's great for movies and everyday use, but for gaming it has done nothing but leave me yearning for something with a higher refresh rate.

I see that there are 120Hz 3D 'gaming' LEDs and have been poking around these waters. I have heard from sources that Benq used to make one of the best 120Hz monitors, but has since been discontinued. So have others, as I see them as 'unavailable' on NewEgg or insanely high priced elsewhere. Are these 120hz 3D monitors a bad idea to purchase? Are there any other options? I can't stand 75Hz in-game any longer!

One thing I know for certain is that you'll need a graphics card capable of pushing 120FPS as well or you'll suffer tearing @ 120hz. Then there's Vsync too. Personally I think the whole 3d stuff is gimmicky but the 120HZ is good for day to day use ... just that you'll need good dual GPU setup or very high end cards ... waste IMO.

Hi Ghep, Just bought an LG W2363D 3ms 120hz 3d monitor for £150 It is amazing in BFBC2 well worth the cash 3 year warranty as well. Good luck

Personally, I don't think the 3D TV/monitor technology is quite there yet and spending that extra cash for something that's subpar at best is nuts. Then again if your in to that sort of thing then by all means go for the 3D setup. From what I have read, in order to utilize that high refresh rate, the source has to be using it as well to take full advantage of it. It's kinda like a blu-ray player and HD TV @ 1080p. It will play that 1080p blu-ray disc with no problem but you stick in a regular dvd and it's just no where near that quality of 1080p. A big difference from 480p to 1080p even though your HD TV is 120Htz it will go down to 60htz or I've even seen it at 28htz....it all depends on the source material. Do some googling/research and contact some TV and monitor vendors and ask them that very question you asked here. Let us know what you find out...I'm kinda curious.

I have just bought a Samsung S23A950D...23 inch 120hz 3D monitor..i like mine so far performs well but I havent used 3D at all..bought this for shooters and BF3/Rage in particular. Looking for a second 750 refernce card so I can run SLI and watercooled so hopefully I get 120fps constantly in both games with a few sacrifices in graphics setting.
It's a noticeable differnce in your game...NEW Vegas runs at 120+FPS and it just feels faster/smoother than it did on the 24 inch Samsung @60hz I had prior to this.
Only persistent issue I have heard about the Samsung is a displayport problem tho it's not sure yet whether it's the monitor or the Drivers..mostly ATI as the 6***series use them. My monitor/card is using the DP DVI and runs without a hitch..latest 286.28 drivers.
