Hitman Pro and Trojan Hunter

I have been a long time user of Trojan Hunter, and recently my subscription has come back up for renewal. Looking at a few forums, I see more mention now of Hitman Pro, and cloud based detection. Would like to know what others are viewing as worthwhile systems to be using.


I currently use Norton ("free" with my Comcast subscription), Tune-Up Utilities, Spybot, and Trojan Hunter.

Over the past few years, I have only found a few Trojans on my PC, usually embedded in downloads from sources I was not expecting to have anything wrong with them.

I did have Ad-Aware Pro, but recently just dropped it. Was not seeing the need for functionality that (I believe) was overlapped by other systems.

Spybot is a legacy system I have just left on my system. Have thought of simply dropping it, but don't have a good reason to do so.

Very happy to pay for the right product or combination that provides the best overall package, and that works well with Norton (which I have used forever, it seems).

I see that you're not having problem with malware and such. You do not have to buy Hitman Pro because it gives you free unlimited scanning. If you're infected, you can activate the removal which will give you 30days to use fully to remove such infection. IMO, you dont have to buy it yet, but i would suggest you keep it along your system just in case. Basically with Hitman Pro, you just subscribing to the removal tool.

Another note, if you have an itch to buy a security progam to help protect you from infections, i suggest Sanboxie with a lifetime subscription. Virtualize all your browser in case you get infected by a drive-by, you can simply just terminate sandboxie and everything will be gone.

Yep. If I get "rid" of Trojan Hunter, I want to replace it with something else. Have thought of Hitman Pro and Malwarebyets as replacements for Trojan Hunter and SpyBot. Your idea of the free scan is one I just didn't think of. Layers of Protection....

Have not used Sanboxie, but that is a very good thought. As you said, I am not having issues, but I do want to stay that way.

Malwarebytes Pro purchased

FYI,

For the record, I have not been too religious about running scans, depending upon the software to alert me for problems. Norton does a good job of blocking stuff, so I have been happy with that.

Yes, I did want to update to better protection. Decided to purchase Malwarebytes Pro, and remove Spybot (goodbye, old friend). Ran a full scan, and actually found one piece of questionable malware that potentially could be evil. Easily deleted, so I would say that the software paid for itself in the first use.

Still trying to figure out if I should keep Trojan Hunter, since I now have Norton 360 and Malwarebytes Pro. Just ran a full scan, and no issues found. There is some comfort in knowing that.

Then, ran a scan by Hitman Pro 3.5, and no issues found.

Have downloaded Sandboxie, but have not tried it yet.

A clean PC is a happy PC.

MBAM and HMP are two of the very best on-demand scanners available. I don't care for MBAM's real time protection as it slows my browser down and takes a good chunk of memory too. HMP usually takes under 5min for a full scan, so it's easy to do bi-weekly, and then twice a month, I do a full scan with MBAM.

Have you looked into Norton DNS ? It's free, easy to install and takes no system resources. It has been shown to block about 40-50% of bad web pages, which just makes your AV that much better.

Using Sandboxie should be considered as your first line of defense and is a great weapon...........Good choice!

That's good you're trying out sandboxie. I agree with DBone that it should be your first line of defense. Sandboxie also allows you to run questionable program before putting it into your HD.

Norton DNS

Norton DNS....well, this is a new one for me. I guess I need to poke my head back on these forums more often! Didn't even know it existed. Looks like I can block malware & phishing, but also different category types of sites that I just don't want to waste my time on.

The concept sounds good, so it is now added to my collection of programs.

Found some videos of Sandboxie on Youtube. Going to be playing with this over the weekend.
