homegroup - cant see other hg computers, cant leave hg

I'm unable to see the other pc in the homegroup. The other PC can see me and my shared files. I CAN see the other pc if i go under network.

I've run the trouble shooter. I have IP6 enabled, the homegroup services are running as are the various peer services.

But when i open the homegroup control panel, it says i'm part of a homegroup but it's not available because I'm not connected to the home network. I have one active network connection and it's set to type home. The option to see or change the homegroup password is grayed out. And if i try to leave the homegroup it says windows couldn't remove me from the homegroup.

I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Any suggestions?

Both pc's are windows 7 64bit.

I made some progress by disabling the group policy for homegroup, rebooting and re-enabling it. I can now at least see/set the HG password and windows isn't saying the HG isn't available. Although i still cant see the other PC on the homegroup.

Oh and i did already try the option of deleting the folder related to the peer networking.

Have you tried changing the workgroup and using that instead of the windows 7 homegroup...i have windows 7 and assorted operating systems and i find if i make them all on the same workgroup then i have no problem...i have windows and linux networked via the workgroup... i didnt need to stop the homegroup...in fact i just ignore it and go straight to the workgroup where it shows me all my pc's

Go back into the HomeGroup advanced settings and disable password protection, which I believe you'll need to do if you share a printer.

However, rippled is correct in what he's saying so you might want to try his suggestion as well, although strictly speaking it applies particularly if you are using different operating systems.

As both your computers are using Windows 7 they should have no problem with the HomeGroup so I'd be inclined just to try what I suggested about password protection.

I changed that setting - i still dont see the other pc in the homegroup. Printer isn't an issue as it's a networked printer and neither pc is sharing it since they are both connected to it directly over the network.

I'll check the settings on the other pc to make sure it's sharing folders/windows firewall isn't blocking anything.
