Homegroup on Windows 7

Hi Guys,

I share my apartment with 5 people and one of them has created a homegroup on the wifi network that we use. And now does not remember the password. i want to be able to create a homegroup and share it with my roommate but unfortunately i cannot create a second homegroup. is there any way i can reset the home group on this network and create one for myself??

Hey thanks for the quick response.. but unfortunately that is not what i was looking for.. the guy who created the home group on my network does not want to share the password also i don't want to share anything with him... so i need to be able to create a home group of my own and share files and videos with my roommate... we need this as we would be working on a project and we don't want anyone else apart from the two of us to be able to see these files.. can you help????

Have you tried to leave the group?
as a last resource you could delete all the files in this location.
C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking

Thanks a lot... that worked... i was able to create my own homegroup now... however for some reason i am not able to access the folders on my roommates laptop that he shared with the homegroup even though he can see the folder that i have shared.. any idea why that could be... i have checked the permissions and everything seems to be same but still something seems to be stopping me from accessing that folder. i don't even see his laptop listed in my homegroup window whereas he can see it under his homegroup folder..

I think you'll find that he needs to leave the old homegroup too.

You can then create a new homegroup with a new password, and then get him to join the new homegroup.

thanks for the reply but i have already tried that... he left the home group and joined the new one that i had created.. when i still could not see the folders i got him to leave the home group and rejoin.. still did not help... ok may be i'll ask him to clear the files at C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking and then ask him to rejoin and see if that makes any difference... hope that works

unfortunately that did not work... now that we both have tried to leave the home group and clear of files from the above mentioned location and then i created a new home group and we both joined it... now neither me nor my roommate can see anything... it comes up with a message on the home group window saying "No other home group computers are currently available" ... and this happens on both the laptops.. so where could the problem be???

All I can offer is this Microsoft article on creating a homegroup from start to finish.

Just work through the tabs at the top and see how you get on.
