IMO this is one of the finest features of Windows 7.

You can have seven windows open, be downloading and running a Spreadsheet and find anything instantly by just running your mouse over the taskbar buttons, then click on the thumbnail you want open.

You can also clean up your desktop by clicking the red X to close in the thumbnail.

The buttons should not thumbnail unless you put the mouse on the button itself. If they are, then you have a bug of some kind which may be solved by running sfc /scannow to repair system files, or run a Repair install from the desktop.

Turning off genius features of Win7 before you become accustomed to them IMO seems like a really stodgy approach to the future.

Gregrocker, to each his own. I didn't know this forum was for judgments - I thought it was for assistance.

I almost wrote something a bit similar a few minutes ago. It's pointless time-wasting to debate how someone wants their computer experience to be. What is poison to one is food to another. Let's all move on, please--I'm getting a headache from pointless arguing what's "best", or "right". I shouldn't have interjected my own questioning of someone's use of multiple copies of Firefox. I'm kicking myself smartly in the rear at this moment.

Dave, no worries. I used to do support a while back and would scratch my head over some of the things people wanted to do. Some of them actually had logical explanations, and once I would hear them, I'd see where they were coming from, even if I didn't necessarily agree with it. Regardless, I like a lot of the new features with Windows 7 and will use them as I learn about them. But there are some things in the line of work I do - a lot of research and SEO editing - where it makes life a LOT easier to have my taskbar items grouped a certain way. Fortunately, I found a tweak to the grouping problem in my other post (the one you'd commented on), and the hover problem is alleviated with that, as well, though not gone. Still, though, "taskbar tweaker" actually adds some functionalities that are useful. You may want to check it out - you may find something you like.

So again, to each his own. To those of you who have tried to offer assistance, I thank you. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me as I play with W7 more and more. I've only had it a day or so, so I have a LOT to learn. So far, though, I'm loving what I see!

Thanx again,
Jamie

Cool--glad you are having fun with it. Maybe this (Win 7) will quiet the Apple fanbois a bit?? On further thought--NOTHING could get them to temper their zealous love of all things-Apple, could it? LOL!

Yes, without passing judgement I help as many as a dozen members a day here with the highwire act of successfully removing Win7 from a dual boot, even jumping their Win7 over a data partition into the deleted XP/Vista first partition. Some I have stayed up overnight helping, even on the phone, so that the success rate is close to 100% on what had been considered a near-impossible operation.....

.....but I still have an opinion. Don't you think a volunteer is entitled to that?;)

Well, you're certainly entitled to it, as we all are.

One of the main reasons for the success of this site is that civilised debate is actively encouraged amongst the members.

So opinions are welcomed - As long as they are stated as such and not as fact, (not stating that any opinions here fall into that catagory :) )

But just FYI, I'm not one of the "guys," but one of the "ladies."

:)

Sorry, I'm only a little tetchy when it comes to users disliking-without-trying Windows 7 genius features, which I think are what makes it the greatest invention since the computer.

Another one is SuperPrefetch which actually anticipates everything you normally do and cues it up for you. This can cause certain machines to run a little slower while it is initiating itself in the days after install. So some want to turn it off.

I realize this should not bother anyone, but it seems like something a person with a year's experience as beta tester should warn against, maybe not as passionately tho.

Didn't half the world's Windows users Beta test Win 7?? I had it running the day it was available, on several machines.

You want to turn back on the taskbar thumbnail previews?

Start here first: Start>right click Computer>Properties>Advanced System Settings>Performance Settings>Visual Effects tab> check Save taskbar thumbnail previews

Did you run a registry tweak given earlier? If so, return to the tutorial and rightclick>delete the D-Key disabling previews. Set a restore point first.

If you check the link in my earlier post there is a download to reset the registry to defaults.

Download the Zip with the reg script to switch the feature off and there is also one to reset
