Welcome to the Seven Forums

There are several different icons that can show up in that address bar all depending on what folder you have open, the one you have open now is icon #109 in imageres.dll in if 32-bit C:\Windows\System32 and if 64-bit in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64

Most of the icons are in the imageres.dll

This tutorial should give you some good information http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73191-icons-change-using-resource-hacker.html

After changing icons you'll need to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49819-icon-cache-rebuild.html afterwards.

Sorry, jerry.
i modified imageres.dll with resourcehacker, but i didnt find icon 109 in system32.
so i only modified imageres.dll in syswow64, rebuild icon cache, restarted windows, but nothing happened.

All i wanna do is just modifying address bar, so it will never show any icons.

as i said, i dont wanna use blank icons for my folders, although it will make my address bar icon disappear.
because it's so painful to works without folder icons.
maybe someone can tell me how to modify address bar to works without icons?
for me, that address bar icons doenst have any function at all. There are also too much contrast between my folder icons and address bar background, so it looks bad.
thats why i wanna hide it.

There most certainly is icon #109 in imageres.dll in system32, the imageres.dll in both system32 and SYSWow64 have the same icons in them.

To properly change a system file you need to take ownership give yourself permission and rename the old file and then copy in the new one look at Post #6 of this thread will tell you how to do it http://www.sevenforums.com/customization/179502-basic-networking-information.html#post1525656

Like I said before just opening up my computer will be icon #109 other folders will have a different icon #.

The address bar icon is using the 16 x 16 pixel image part of the icon, icon #109 has 13 layers to it and it has 3 16 x 16 pixel images in it you could probably try a transparent image in those 3 locations and it might work.

Why even bother with .ico files when you can use a properly sized PNG image? Heck, pick any photo from your collection, and run it through a favicon generator and you'll have yourself a favicon in like 10 seconds.
