How can I confirm that a computer is overheating?

Hi,

A friend of mine has a computer that randomly shuts down. No BSOD but upon restarting you get that screen that gives you the option to start in safe mode.

The case fan and the fan on the processor remain on for a few minutes after it shuts down. I think it is overheating but my friend took it to a technician who "ran it for an entire day in warm room with no problems."

I looked inside the case, it wasn't that dusty, but I cleaned it with some pressurized air, however it is still shutting down.

Is there some tool to monitor the temperature of a system? Or is there some other problem that could be causing this?

Windows 7 32 bit
Approx 2 years old (hardware and OS)

Temperature seems like a good place to start. Install this program:

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

And see what temperatures your components run at, as shown below.

Are all the Windows updates installed? Does the program shut-down using specific programs?

What spec PSU (power supply unit) is in the PC. I've had quite a few customers in the past who's Pc's have just shut down randomly and once I changed the psu the problem was sorted
