how can i disable window 10 upgrade?

Thanks for that. I would like to turn the auto update only. I just do not want to install it now. May be back to install in the future..

I would download the list of updates to hide, then shut down, restart with no internet access, open update, disable auto updates (I choose "never check" because I run update myself). hide all "malicious" updates.

Yes i have that icon.

Just a quick question if i go ahead and let it upgrade and install any disadvantage?

I'd wait for at least six months unless you are good at fixing problems with your computer.

So what did you do to disable the auto install?

I never let any Windows 10 upgrade updates get onto my machine in the first place. I will upgrade if and when I am ready and will probably purchase a Windows 10 machine to avoid all those driver problems. I will keep my Windows 7 on the machine that it is currently installed on.

I am in the middle of installing this months updates so will be busy for a while.

Well you can try it and see if it re-appears after a reboot. To be quite honest I'm not sure that hiding it will work with the Get Windows 10 app running.

If the app is the problem try either:

Cancel Windows 10 Reservation
Get Windows 10 app - Cancel Reservation for Free Upgrade to Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

or

Option One here:
Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

Also you have been given some good advice on making a system image backup so that you can restore your Windows 7 in the event of problems.

I can't tell if this issue is resolve or not, so I thought I would add my 2 cents...

If you want to stop it from doing the Windows 10 auto download every time you start your PC, there are 3 Windows Updates need to find:

KD3035583
KB2952664
KB3021917

If you have any of them installed, you need to uninstall them.

After you uninstall them, run Windows Update and look at the list of Updates available for you to download and install. (If you didn't have to uninstall them, run Windows Update and see if they're waiting to be downloaded).

If any of those 3 Updates are on the list to be downloaded from Windows Update, hide them and Windows 10 will never bother you again.

If you later decide you want to download Windows 10, "unhide" those 3 hidden Windows Updates and that will start the process for you.

I just ran GWX Control Panel. It is a standalone exe and lets you decide what you want on your computer.

Okay so this is reported to work:

Go to your C: partition and look for a folder called $Windows.~BT

Press [Shift+Delete]

Or:

Right-click C: drive > Properties > Disk Cleanup > Clean up system files > Enable Temporary Windows installation files > OK

Then go to:

Control Panel > Programs and features > View installed updates

Search for KB3035583, KB2952664, and KB3021917

If found - right click and select "Remove"

Switch off your router.

Reboot.

Go to: Control Panel > Windows Update > Check for updates > View uninstalled updates

Look for the updates you just removed (depending on your Windows version), right-click them one by one and hit the Hide update option.

Switch off your computer.

Switch your router on again and boot your computer.

You also have to keep checking hidden updates. I had two I hid in September removed and again showing in Optional On 15 Oct.
I write down on a note card what is hidden so I'm positive these two have been moved and not by me.

There's a free utility that was made to control this, GWX Control Panel, which used to be called GWX stopper. I haven't used it yet, but it sounds like it will make this easy. If you use it post back how well it works.
