How can I get the most out of my GTX 460?

I just got my 1GB GTX 460 last week and I want to know if there are any sort of tweaks I could do (not overclocking) to get the best performance. I don't know if there's anything else I could do besides overclocking (which, atm, I'm not going to do). Thanks in advance.

Short of overclocking, you are already getting the most out of it already... What is it that you want to improve??

Frame rates as much as possible.

On another note: Apparently all Palit cards ship with a program called vTune on the driver CD. I have it and you can change Core Clock, Memory Clock, and Shader clock settings amongst other things, but I don't think changing things there would actually be considered overclocking.

Those are the things you change to overclock your card. Short of overclocking your card it is what it is.. Fabe

Not to sound rude, but what do you think Overclocking is?

When you increase the Core & Memory clocks, that is overclocking the card.

In a nutshell that software just tells the card, You're supposed to be running at 'x amount" and the card simply runs at that speed. (if it can)
But whatever manner you choose to do it, that software or any other, any time you tell a piece of hardware what it should be running at (more than it should) that is overclocking.

Aside from Overclocking, the only other options I can think of:

1. Lower settings a bit or disable AA and AF.
2. possibly the driver itself (This may or may not help)

Some drivers are more optimized for certain games. Newer isnt always better, although many times it may be.

What I mean is, For example lets say you play Fallout 3 all the time. But you do not have, or play Battlefield 2.

If a newer Driver optimized the perforamnce by 10% for Battlefield, yet has a known issues that Fallout may experience corruption in certain scanarios or longer loading times..
Go with the older driver where those issues weren't present for that game.
Since that optimization will not affect you, and only hurts you for what you do play.

this may not always apply, but ive found it can be the case on occasions.
Just look through update notes about the drivers.

Really the only things I can think of that may help.

There is a fantastic tweek guide here :

TweakGuides.com - Nvidia Forceware Tweak Guide

really helpful info, the only thing i would do different is set the PhysX processor to your video card instead of "auto" as it bounces between the CPU and GPU when in "auto", you want the GPU to handle it specifically.

This site has heaps of tweak guides for most versions of windows as well and also ATI cards.

I also switch to windows "classic mode" prior to gaming and disable all non essential services, evey little bit helps when it comes to CPU,MEM GPU. I have a GTX480 SC (different card i know) but do notice the difference. In BFBC2 I'm getting 85-145 fps (using fraps) with everything on max @ 1920x1080 AA 32xCSAA, ANISO 16X and so on.

Hope it helps

That article lost my attention when it tried to sell 2 different guides, on how to optimize a system, within the first paragragh.
I mean .. "very important do NOT skip this part" ~ Just pay $5 and we will tell you how to proceed?

na, you can skip that, its about windows optimization ( of which there is a free version, i have used it and its great) but if you read on it explains the correct removal of old drivers and installing new ones, which I might add MOST people do incorrecty, all the settings in the nvid control panel and GPU optimization. Yes he has some paid guides but the majority are free.

Just my 2 cents as I found it helpful

cheers
