Solved How can I restore all "open with" defaults?

I mistakenly selected ‘opened with’ Google Chrome for an .exe file. Now all my .exe files open in Google Chrome, and all the program shortcuts have Google Chrome icons. Is there a way I can restore all the 'open with' defaults? Or, how can I fix this?

Thanks. I think I inaccurately described my problem.

I think what actually happened was, all my exe files were changed to LNK Files. When viewing properties of all the programs, it displays "Type of file: LNK File (.Ink)".

So what I need to do is restore back the default file types for all my exe files. Also some of the Windows applications like "my documents", "Word" and "Calculator" have also been changed to LNK files.

If you like, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before these were changed to restore them to how they were when the restore point was created.

Unfortunately, I discovered I didn't have any system restore points... so that option wasn't available

I would also recommend to try what ThrashZone posted above, but for both .lnk (LNK) and .exe options in the tutorial. It will restore their default associations.

That worked!

First I only did it with the .exe files and nothing happened. Per your recommendation, I did it with the .ink files and it restored everything to normal. Thanks to both of you.

I'll be sure to create a system restore point now as well.
