Solved How can I tell if Windows will install on my NVME before wiping it?

Hi there,

I have installed Windows 7 on a couple of devices before, but found that I could not be certain Windows 7 would be happy to install onto a drive without wiping it first in the section in the installer for partitioning etc.

I used a custom script by a user on this forum to add suitable drivers to a Windows 7 Pro iso in the hopes to be able to install it onto my i7-8068k and NVME SSD desktop. I do not want to wipe the Windows 10 that is on the drive before I know whether or not Windows 7 will be happy to install onto the NVME drive. How can I tell if it will?

Thanks.

Not sure why you think you need to wipe anything. It is normal to install windows to a partition without deleting everything else on the disk

my i7-8068k and NVME SSD desktop

The script is your one by the way. I do not know very much about partitioning, wouldn't you only do that if you wanted to install Windows 7 alongside the existing Windows 10?

The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z370P D3

Installing win7 to another partition is a way to find out, without wiping the drive win10 is on.

Okay thanks. I will see about making a partition large enough see if Windows will be happy to install onto it :)

Have you located the firmware tpm in bios?
What is this for? ^

Went to install Windows 7 but rather than going to the usual install/setup it opened something called the PEMenu? Presume this is because of your script. The PEMenu does not clearly indicate whether it Windows would install to the new partition, like the normal Windows setup would, not sure how to proceed.

What do the buttons on the menu say?

Is there a button that says Setup?

It is a requirement to run windows 11.

If you can find it in your bios, that would be useful because it would indicate that probably all the gigabyte z370 boards have it.

It is a requirement to run windows 11. A lot of people are looking through their bios to see if they have it.

If you can find it in your bios, that would be useful because it would indicate that probably all the gigabyte z370 boards have it.

I have no interest in Windows 11 at all. Sure someone else will find out if the board supports it.

The PEMenu has an option to install but it is not the most straightforward and it gives no indication as to whether Windows will install onto my drive. If the PEMenu is not a result of your script I will try another Windows iso sometime.

Thanks,

If you click the button that says Setup - you get windows setup.exe

It is not difficult.

Then you refuse to answer a simple question about your bios - yet you expect others to answer your questions and put in time and effort to help you.

Is this a windup?

Are mixing up threads?

You asked me if I had located TPM in my BIOS as though you had asked me to earlier, which you did not. And when I asked what TPM was, your reply is bewildering unrelated to this thread. How does TPM relate to this thread? Why should I look for something to satisfy your unrelated curiosity? You are too out of the blue with things.
