How can I validate an email address

Hi, I have a friend's email address that is bouncing. Being Dyslexic, I probably wrote it down incorrectly so I would like to try various spelling error combinations that I often make. I started by trying to send emails but some of them never returned an Email Daemon error, so I don't know if they exist or not.

Is there a trusted email address checker? I ask about trusted as some that I found in a search were non-US-based and I do not want to to add a friend's email address (when I get it right) to a spammer database.

I can't contact the friend as she is with Projects Abroad and only has email contacts once per week and no phone services. I know, I should have tested the address before she left, but hindsight being...

IMHO,
I would wait until she contacts you and save her e-mail address in your contact list.

There are services that will verify email addresses but they do pretty much what you have already done. When a sent email bounces it is a strong indication the address is wrong. It could also mean that the server is having problems or is currently not accessible. Not too unusual in some developing countries.

If you do it, make sure to go back and uncheck Telnet Client when you are done.
