From whence did you get the disc? Is it for the Notebook/Laptop in your System Specs? If so the proper disc should be from HP but if it was from a different source it may accept the Product Key that is on the COA/Certificate of Authenticity sticker usually on the bottom of the case [or may be inside the battery compartment]. Or you may be able to purchase Windows 7 from a local store, online store or Microsoft.

As far as I can remember the only place you can buy just the legal COA key is from Microsoft.

You can buy a complete package which includes the Windows 7 DVD and the legal COA key from Microsoft authorized retailers.

I chose to buy mind from a Local Intel store in my town.

A key comes with the disc, the word is activate, not validate. You more then likely got robbed.

Hope you didn`t pay too much, take it back and ask the seller, "Hey what about an activation key"

If you want the real thing with a key you have to buy windows from a dealer like Newegg.

Not sure what you mean by HE, could you possibly mean Home Premium ?

If you have a store bought PC with a COA sticker with Product Key then you already own the OS on that PC to reinstall as often and in whatever way you want for the life of that motherboard.

Hopefully if so you only bought a disk to use for reinstall, not another full expensive license. You paid again if you did.

Any Win7 retail disk can be used to reinstall as discussed in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7
which steps will also assure you get and keep a perfect install.
