I've never messed with it, don't know how to get there. I just want to have a look to see if I'm missing the keys that caused problems with one of Aug.Updates. I'm a bit concerned 'cuz a friend of mine ran CCleaners Registry Cleaner on my PC several months ago.

You should not mess around in Registry Editor unless your an advanced user.

You asked how to get into the registry, here it is. http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Regedit

Consider using System Restore as an alternative. If you are using Regedit to attempt to fix a major problem with your operating system, remember that System Restore automatically creates restore points at regular intervals. You can easily choose to restore your system's configuration to a date before the problem arose, and that will restore the registry in the process.

Just want to 'look' in Registry, don't intend to 'edit' anything. I'd like to know if I'm missing the keys, if so I won't install that certain Update. You're saying Registry Editor, I just want to look in Registry.

Yes, the link will provide the information you need to get into the registry.

You can use Google to search for information on how to use the registry to make changes to the system.

Make sure you backup before making changes.

@LB, I'm still working on lots of updates that I had hidden. (posted in another thread a couple days ago) The one I'm referring to in this thread is KB2859537. According to Susan Bradley, most problems were due to missing reg. keys caused by registry cleaners. I know nothing of registry but a friend did run CC Reg. cleaner on my PC several or more months back. I haven't even tried to install that KB yet so don't know if it's a problem for me but wouldn't even know what to do if it or any others were.
Something I always forget to mention in my posts is that I live "in the sticks" with no one close for PC help & would have to take machine to town to tech. & can't afford that. Sorry to be such a pessimist, just trying to cover my butt.

Just type regedit.exe into the search box of the Windows start menu, and then accept the UAC prompt, the registry just looks like this:

Thank you! that's all I was asking in the 1st place. But since I'm such a dummy, once I got there I realized I didn't have all info so had to go searching again & can't believe what I found after all this! Will have to post a shot to show you. What's circled in blue is what I went searching for & in red is what I discovered that should have been easier for me to find in the 1st place.:o

Grits if it was my computer I wouldn't be messing with the registry for such a problem.
My suggestion is; if you are not having problems just keep Windows 7 updated as recommend by Microsoft.
The only updates I research before installing are drivers and anything to do with Bing.
I install all important and recommended Windows 7 Updates.
I check for Windows 7 Updates a couple times a day. If Microsoft has made a mistake with a previous Update they will correct it and recommend a new Update.
Today I took all Updates, 24 of them and things are working well.
If for any reason you decide to change anything in the registry please ask for help here. A very small mistake can cause huge problems.

You can rest assured that I wouldn't do anything in registry,it's unknown territory for me. I was only wanting to look but am not smart enough to know what to look for anyway. Then after reading what I circled in red, just decided to forget it. The reason for my holding off/hiding some updates is that in reading some posts I see where people have had problems with them & like I said I'm too dumb to know what to do if there is trouble. Seems like most of the problems last few months have been with Kernel updates & that's what KB2859537 was. They replaced it with KB2872339 but seems I read problems there too. Then there's KB2876315 of Sept. which I still have hidden & now a new one for Oct. (don't remember the KB#). Seems like these Kernel updates cause BSOD.
I'm just really spooked anymore about what MS is putting out.

You will always find people on line that are having problems with updates. Because each computer system is different some legal and some not.
If you notice that when someone post here on this Forum with a Update problem in the solution the helper post that this repair is only for this computer no other computers or something like that.

The solutions are are individual as the computers.

If you are not having a Update problem just keep your computer updated and enjoy it. If you have a problem just post it.
You can spend the rest of your life looking for problems that Mary and Lou had somewhere in the world on some unknown computer.

Well said, that man!
:)

I've always maintained that you could buy two 'identical' machines at the same time from the same source, and use them in an similar way - and by the end of the first day in use you have two very different computers.

Whew, just installed 5 of my Hidden. Evidently tho' since new Oct updates came out, MS pulled 2 of the Kernel's from my list, KB2859537, the one I wanted to check reg. for, & KB2876315, which I mentioned in an above post. I did go ahead with KB2872339.
Thank you all that gave me suggestions.
If I ever hide so many updates again I hope someone kicks my butt.
Will mark solved.
