My wife's new PC uses Windows 7 64 bit OS. I use WinXP 32 bit. I have no idea how to create a program shortcut on her desktop as I easily could with XP. Could someone help? Thanks

hi Aaron1312042, and welcome to sevenforums,

there are several method of getting a shortcut on the desktop:

  • right-click on desktop >> new >> shortcut >> browse to the program's exe file

  • open up windows explorer >> navigate to exe file >> drag it to desktop, and a shortcut is created

  • goto startmenu >> find program >> right-click >> copy >> goto desktop >> paste

there are other methods, but those should be enough for you. :)

*edit* oops - Bongo got there first - again!

...and i should have known that Brink had already written an excellent tutorial for it!

MS Math

I noticed that while starting up MS Math for the first time, the agreement indicated that I could make one backup of the program. How do I make such a copy. Thanks

you mean you actually read those EULA's??

i've just installed the program and i can't see any mention of this. do you mean this MS maths?

if you just save the install file somewhere safe, then you'll be able to install it again in the future if necessary.

the simplest was of doing it without having to download any more software is to use windows' in-built cd burning feature.

here's a microsoft video which shows you how to use it.

you need to burn the same file that you downloaded - that's the installer program for MS Maths.

it's preinstalled? that's unusual.

i wonder if we are talking about the same program.

when you run it, does it have a calculator looking thing on the left hand side?

if you want to burn a copy of the program for future use, then click here and download the x64 setup program. you don't need the other files.

once it's downloaded, follow the instructions detailed in the video i linked you to above to burn it onto a cd.

i'm really not sure why you need to save a copy of it on cd, but it's up to you...as it's freely available for download and most likely will be in the future too.
