How do I disable System restore in safe mode?

I have a virus on one of my pc's that presents itself as being anti virus software that has got through the upto date McAfee protection. I've run their "Stinger" program which finds and deletes the virus but when I restart the pc it reappears....hence my need to switch off system restore. The virus stops you doing this in normal mode.

Anyone know how I can disable the system restore on Windows 7 so that I can do this before I run Stinger?

Thanks but I tried that same page. The virus blocks it once you get so far through the process, hence trying to find a way to do it in safe mode

Run Malwarebytes. it will remove the virus from your system and restore points. then remove McAfee and load Microsoft Security Essentials and your good to go.

I have to agree with Ken about dropping McAfee and installing MSE. If you look through our security section, you will find dozens of threads with people having problems related to McAfee.

What fake Antivirus appears? If MalwareBytes can't install, I may be able to find a list of files related to it, which you can remove yourself in safe mode. Then MalwareBytes can remove the left overs.

Gents, Thanks for your help. Its gone by my limited ability so I have taken it to have someone more competent look at it. Will let you know if I get any feedback
