Hi there,
I have a SONY vaio vpcea16fg , and a windows 7 professional installed on it.
I want to disable windows from auto detecting my built in usb 2.0 camera.
I have disabled UPNP and SSDP services, but it doesn't work. I mean when I restart my machine in detects usb camera and install it again!!!!

I want to disable my webcam auto detection, because there is a hardware problem with my built-in webcam and causes a blue screen error. When I move my laptop's lid, windows detect the camera and try to install it automatically, but after two or three times of detection a blue screen is occurred.

Any help is appreciated,

Sinai.

Rather than disable it, why don't you open the case and unplug the camera? Better yet, fix the issue.

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
I would recommend getting the webcam fixed, however, if you want to disable it go to:

Start :orb: > Type: device manager > Imaging Devices > Right-Click Device > Disable

Have you thought about uninstalling the driver for the camera?

My Computer My Computer

yes. I Have uninstalled the driver, but once I move the lid a little, windows automatically detect the usb 2.0 camera device and install it's driver again. I also delete usbvideo.sys from system32 folder, and delete all registry keys about usbvideo!!
after that windows cannot install it's driver, but it still detects my webcam automatically!!
I previously disabled instaling devices via "local group policy editor", but it disables all devices such as flash memories,
that's annoying.
Is there really a way which I can adjust the windows to prevent auto detection of my camera?

Why don't you just get the camera repaired?

Yea I know that is the best solution, but in our city there is no specialist, and myself don't have any experience
of openning the laptop case!! But I like to do that myself one day:geek:

I wanted to know is there a way to disable auto device detection of windows or not? if it is , how? if not, I won't
search the internet any more.

Have you searched on YouTube for your laptop model?

There is most probably a program which allows you to use the webcam, for instance I have CyberLink YouCam, have you searched for any related programs on your laptop which may control your webcam?

unfortunatly YouTube is forbidden in our country. I use proxifier but still can't open it.
I know there is no programto get control the webcam. when I had original windows, there was a program which was installed by the original windows, but know, I have changed my windows to professional.
Now, I'm sure there is no program.

Google search? Was it a upgrade or a clean install?

Can you search google?
There should be a video or write up on how to partially take apart your laptop and unplug/remove the camera. Then when you're ready you can fix or install a new camera. Parts might be available on ebay.

Clean install, because my original windows was home premium and it was old (2009 I think.)

I think Microsoft wanted their OS to be compatible with many different types of hardware. Thus less people calling support when something doesn't work. That's why Windows always tries to install a driver when it sees a new piece of hardware, and disabling that "feature" is difficult/not allowed.

Search on google for screen removal. You should be able to see the wiring for the camera when the bezel is removed. Then follow the wiring and unplug it. It sounds to me like the wires are broken at the hinge area and are making intermittent contact.

yea Havoc, I think it is exactly as you said. So, I think the only choice for me is opening the case and unplugging my usb camera.

Thanks all you guys.

Go to your programs folder and just delete the whole webcam program. Or turn it off in Services.

cheers. I think I could solve my problem. As its name conveys "USB 2.0 camera", it uses an internal usb port.
there is an entry in the device manager "Universal serial Bus Controllers", which controls internal and external
usb drivers and devices. I disabled one of my Generic USB hubs then USB composite device disabled automatically and my webcam disappeard from device manager as well!! from then windows does not detect automatically my webcam.

that's great.
