How do I fix errors from SCANNOW's CBS.log?

Hello, I'm new here- I've been going through a few problems with my computer. When I run SFC /Scannow I get errors the system is unable to fix, and are detailed in a CBS.log. I've added the CBS.log to my post, but how to I fix the errors? I do have my installation discs, if that's any help.

Thank you in advance!

Hello Miss Keena and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not an expert at reading CBS logs. Hopefully one of the Forum experts will join in and offer some specific advice. In the meantime, the below tutorial might help. In Option Two, Step 4 there is a "Note" that says you may have to run the scannow command 3 or more times to completely fix everything that's possible to fix. But even with multiple runs you may still have files that can't be fixed. In the same tutorial (at the bottom of the tutorial in the "Tip" box) is another link on how to Extract Files From a Windows 7 Installation DVD.

Sometimes it's easier and quicker to simply do a Repair Install rather than trying to extract and install clean copies of individual files. If successful a Repair Install will fix your currently installed Windows 7 and preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc. The downside is you'll have to reinstall Windows Updates.

I had a similar problem a few years ago where files could not be repaired with multiple runs of system file checker. I elected to do a Repair Install. It took about an hour but fixed everything. Then I manually checked for Windows Updates and installed them in the following order: critical, important, recommended, and optional. (The updates took about 4 hours because I researched and then decided if I really needed to install right away.) Once I was satisfied that my computer had been repaired, I made a System Image and I've continued to make images once a week ever since. If I ever have another problem I can restore my computer in less than an hour using the latest image.

You have installed update KB2923545 which causes a false sfc corruption reading, uninstall it and when it shows up again in windows update, right click on it and hide it, After you uninstall it, sfc should come up fine.

You uninstall it by going to windows update and clicking on installed updates in the lower left corner, then you have to search the updates until you find it, then just click on it and you`ll get a popup asking you if you want to uninstall it, just say yes.

Set windows update like this, and always highlight an update, then click on More Information on the right side of the page, read up on what the update is for, then decide if you need it.

Hi, I uninstalled that update, but sfc still reports the same message. Also I set Windows Update the way you advised.

Hello, I started the Repair Install but at Step 12 (Compatibility) I get the message that my version of Windows is more recent than the one on the disc. I don't know which files would be corrupted that would need individual replacement; what should I do now?

I poked around and found out that another Windows Update from around May 7 (KB3022345) was also causing SFC issues for a lot of people. See this previous Forum thread:

Windows 7 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files

I uninstalled and hid the offending update and ran the Microsoft Fixit tool. It solved my problems.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

Another possibility that might help is if you have a System Restore Point from before the issues began. You could try restoring your computer to that earlier time.

I've uninstalled and hidden KB2923545. Hi again, I cannot find KB3022345 in my list of installed updates, but it shows up as Succeeded in my update history. I have 17 updates waiting in Windows Update but none are KB3022345. I've run Microsoft Fixit and it must've fixed something, because yesterday I wasn't receiving any updates and now I have quite a few.

Chkdsk reports 4KB in bad sectors, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've yet to try System Restore, as my earlier restore point is 4 days ago and I've had this issue for longer. I won't install those 17 updates until I come home from work tonight and research them, but I'll look into that forum thread you gave me now.

Hi Guys! I wanted to do a separate post because I fixed the problem and found out how. I don't know if it's been noticed before but maybe it'll help someone.

I deleted and hid update KB2923545 like AddRAM said, and deleted and hid update KB3022345 like Marsimimar said; checking Marsimar's 1st link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3022345 shows that:

KB 3022345 has been updated to KB 3068708!!!!

This is the update's link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3068708. It has the same update description. The prerequisite section lists:

Update detail information

Prerequisites

To install this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. Or, install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Registry information

To apply this update, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.
Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this update.
Update replacement information

This update replaces previously released update 3022345.
Now, as for KB 2919355 which is listed as a prerequisite for the offending KB 3022345, it doesn't show up in my installed, to-be-installed or hidden updates list, presumably because I have Windows SP1 installed and SP1 is the alternative prerequisite.

I deleted and hid KB 3068708, and ran SFC /SCANNOW and recieved a lovely "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." as a result! CHKDSK also turned up no problems!

I'm going make a restore point and a backup now, and will check my new updates! Thanks you guys!
