Hi

Sincere apologies for this simple task that I'm sure I should know BUT! How do I install a driver from a .zip file?

Action center says I need a driver (CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers) and gives me a link (silabs.com) from which I download the .Zip file for my W7 version.

Now that I have the .zip file, what do I do to install the driver? OR, can you point me to an existing thread that covers this.

Thank you for any assistance

I always extract all files from a zip file, right click on the zip and click Extract all...
Read the ReleaseNotes.txt
You probably just need to run the CP210xVCPInstaller_x64.exe and follow the installer instructions.

Thanks for answering but I don't know what you mean by "the 64 exe file installer" !

DavidE

Thanks also for answering. I hoped the release notes would help with installation BUT it only says
"Driver Installation
-------------------

See Kit User's Guide for installation instructions."

and (you guessed it) I dont know what that is either.

Should I just try extracting through he Zip wizard to desktop and then double click the "CP210xVCPInstaller_x86.exe" and follow instrucitons?

Thanks

Yes, that's what i would do.

fyi,
I also scan the zip file, and the extracted exe at VirusTotal before running the exe.
https://www.virustotal.com/
If i see any malware found, i research best i can before installing.
