Solved How do I make permanent Account Name change

I've just had a new pc, had a hard drive problem so a Dell technician came in and set everything up again. Unfortunately he flipped the computer name I wanted (opti2) and account name (dellpg).

I've changed my computer name back to opti2 and there doesn't seem any issue here, but although I have renamed my account from opti2 to dellpg, this seems to be only superficial and all my links in Excel are linked to c:\users\opti2, rather than c:\users\dellpg

I have checked on my registry and it seems that there lots of references to opti2 as a user.

Is there anyway, I can just change all references of opti2 to dellpg, or is the only way to delete that account and set up a new account called dellpg, which I can imagine might also cause problems. It is important to me that I have my account name as dellpg.

Any help appreciated.

When you rename an account in Windows this does not update the users profile or references to it in the registry. This is by design. Finding and updating all references in the registry and possibly configuration files as well would be very difficult and prone to error.
