Did a quick search for "Remap User Folder" and came up with this... Windows 7 Forums the biggest Windows 7 help and support forum, friendly help and many Windows 7 tutorials that will help you get the most out of Microsofts new Windows 7 Operating System. - Search Results for Remap User Folder

Read through a few of them and then decide which one applies to you......follow directions. I have my User folder and data(movies, music, documents, etc) on my HDD and everything else on my SSD. Saves quite a bit of space moving it all over.

Hello Jimny,

The tutorial below can help how you how to move the location of your user folders to be on another HDD.

However, if you are just wanting to save HDD space, then you might consider this below to be able to access the files from your libraries with the files actually located where you like instead. This way you will not have to worry about any potential issues that come with moving user folder locations.
  • Create a new folder at any location you want.
  • Move any files you want into the new folder.
Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

I missed a step somwhere and am all confused and don't know where to turn.
I think I missed the step to create a user account. I copied to user\john file to D drive and did the regedit.
I have the files safely in my D drive. In attemp to return to using C:\User\john, I copied the files back, for now.

Each time I log in, i think the user is being re-created as if the computer is setting up the desktop for the first time. I must have missed a step.

I want to have the D drive set as a default for files but I want to start this process over.

I see the C:\user\john folder but nothing has populated. For example, I don't see the desktop items on my deskop. I don't see Download items in the download folder, etc.

i seem to have lost the windows setting with the quick launch.

I also seem to have lost Chrome and Dropbox.

I am giving up. I will manual move files over to D drive. I had to re-create desktop settings and re-install Chrome, Dropbox, printers, etc... Thanks everyone.
