Thanks for the reply.
I have tried this but doesn't make a difference. Have uninstalled via device manager when I tried. Didn't tick to delete the drivers.

You need to try deleting driver too in device manager. And restarting computer. Take will load the basic window driver for keyboard and mouse. Also delete elen TouchPad in programs and features in control panel.

Hi again
Have tried but no delete option on the keyboard driver, only an uninstall.
Have deleted the others which have been replaced but still highlighted in device manager as not working.

Is there another way to delete the driver at all?

Thanks again

Check to see there are any Class upper or lower filters for those devices. Here's how: in Device Mgr right click each device->Properties then the Details tab. Use the pull down menu to carefully look if either Class upper or lower filters are listed. If yes, select each one. Copy/paste the info that's shown for any filter into next post.

Please tell me what you find for each device

ok, here goes, there are still 3 showing corrupted but now different from the titles in original post:

for HID keyboard device, it shows 'class upper filters' and lists 2, 'aswKbd' and 'kbdclass'

for Standard ps/2 keyboard ,it shows the same 2 'aswKbd' and 'kbdclass'

for microsoft ps/2 mouse,it shows 'class upper filters' and lists 'mouclass'

no class lower filters listed for any of them

thanks.

I would try the Troubleshooter - right bottom on the tasktray.

have you tried a restore point before the problem started?

No unfortunately my laptop seems to have stopped doing the restore points when I checked for this when it happened. No idea why except memory on my c drive was tight, which I have since solved by moving photos to another part of hard drive.

Good advice. Try a restore point before we try my suggestion (which, even then, would only apply to the keyboard if it should prove to help)

For some reason my system stopped saving the restore points so I can't do that unfortunately

ASWKBD is a keyboard hook for Avast AV. Don't know why it would need that unless it records your key input. It could be a look-a-like virus but I would check to see if Avast has a fix or you have the most current version. Apparently, Avast has a history of killing keyboards.

I had just upgraded my avast when it happened so that would make some kind of sense... I will definitely contact them and see what they suggest

Check your system protection settings. It wouldn't surprise me to hear Avast also killed those--So you can't back it out.

If it sounds like I have a certain opinion of Avast, you're right. ;)

Right, now my keyboard is back working again... so I can actually type and say thanks for the help on this.

I will now be using the ability to type to complain to avast. What a stupid problem to cause from something that's supposed to be protecting your pc!

Complaining to them doesn't seem so straightforward mind you.

One final question - does it matter what drivers I have, as they aren't the same as what I had before??
