How do I type / print Greek letters

How do I type and print the old windows special characters now I have windows 7
In windows XP I used to have two keyboard in my task tray one ENG and one EL ( greek) so i could swap between the two and print the Greek letter Omega
I also used the Windows special characters ALT0181 to print mu - as an example
How do I print these Greek and Mathematical symbols now please?

I have found the ASCII codes now I am using the Numeric keyboard to insert them
I have also foumd the character map- tucked away at the top above all those spuninst.inf files
I will try to pin the character map in my tool tray

You can do exactly the same as you did before. Go Control Panel -> region and Languages -> Keyboards and Languages tab -> change keyboards. There you can add a keyboard, say Greek, and then you'll have exactly the same little icon right next to the system tray showing the current language, i.e. keyboard layout. For example, as I am typing this right now, I have EN there (of course).

Now, depending on which program you are using to type, there might be other options. For example in Word (or PowerPoint) you can click on Insert Symbol, navigate to the font you like and choose a special symbol from the table, there are lot's of different symbols out there other than various standard alphabets. In addition you can use the equation editor that comes with the Office to type equations if you need them.

Finally, for really scientific texts, people use Latex. For example, I have the MikTex distribution on my computer, coupled with emacs for text editing and cygwin for command-line prompt and unix-type scripts, but one can clearly use just notepad and windows cmd prompt.

Yes! I had added the other ( greek keyboard ) and it is there in the control panel >>>>> change keboard popup screen BUT I dont have the small icons in the system tray - as I did in XP


I have looked in hidden icon but the EN and EL letter Icons are not there either.......... I must be missing a step out but can not find what it is

Spark, right where you choose another language, i.e. Control Panel -> region and Languages -> Keyboards and Languages tab -> change keyboards there is a tab called language bar. Go there, click docked to the taskbar and you'll get it.

Thanks every one for your help
While reading the posts on this problem I also saw the one about remaping the keys
So now I am doubly happy : I can type and print electrical and mathmatical symbols from my key board AND I have moved the CAP LOCK so I do not keep hitting it when I just cap shift
That is a problem I have had for 10 years
