How do you change the 2 images on your folder?

I've been trying to get it to work for the past half hour and I can't seem to have any luck. I thought the two images generated in the folder were the last two images added to do the folder. So I did a little bit of editing to the last two images I wanted to be there, but it failed.

I've gone to the Custom setting but it only allows me to set a single image. What a mess! I can't figure this out...

My apologies for the confusion. I'm referring to the thumbnails (I assume) like the ones in surensach's picture.

I know it's possible to change it to a single picture, but I'm interested in keeping both. However, I've been trying to figure how to select 2 pictures (instead of a single one) and I can't do it. I can't even determine how the pictures are generated.

As far as I know you are not allowed to display the "two pictures" in a folder at your own. You can do it for one picture for sure.

Copy an image in .JPG or .GIF format that user want to use as folder picture into the folder itself.
Rename the picture file name to Folder. For example, Picture1.jpg should be renamed to Folder.jpg and Picture1.gif should be renamed to Folder.gif.
Optionally, set the folder picture file (Folder.img) with hidden attribute to prevent it from displaying when listing folder’s contents.
To revert and restore the original Windows Vista automatic assigned folder pictures, just delete the Folder.img file.

Tried this. Did not work =(

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the images folder where you would like to see thumbnails displayed. On the menu, click the Organize tab and then Folder And Search Options. On the ensuing control applet, click the View tab

and the Under Files And Folders, uncheck the Always Show Icons, Never Thumbnails check box. That will turn on thumbnails for that particular folder. If you want to apply the change to all folders, you should click the Apply To Folders button.

Click OK to finish the process.

These are my default definitions (uncheck Always Show Icons, Never Thumbnails box). What was supposed to change?

I tried this. Restarted my computed, went to check the folder, nothing happened. I deleted the two pictures that I wanted to be displayed, downloaded them again, nothing happened. I then decided to save them to the folder using paint, under a new file name, nothing happened again...

I can't determine what generates those two images. Right now, they seem to be locked. No matter what I do, nothing changes them. Is there some way to solve them?

It doesn't bother me that much, it's more of a presentation issue than anything else, but it's something that I've been trying to find out ever since Vista, and no amount of experimentation ever lead me to any conclusion..

EDIT: I just created a new folder and added the final two images I wanted to be displayed, but it still insists in displaying the old images... I'm out of ideas.

Has this issue been solved in the forums since I started this thread?

I have been trying a few things for the last days, and I still can't figure out it out. I attempted to do a little experiment a couple of days ago that seemed to work, but only for one folder. I changed the filename of the pictures I wanted displayed. Then, I uploaded them in image host site. Afterwards, I cleared and reset the thumbnail cache. I proceed to download the images again (and replaced them with its filename at the time) and, finally, changed it back to old filename. The two pictures I wanted became displayed.

This experiment seems to suggest that the process involved has something to do with the date of the files, and its names. But for whatever reason, it only worked for one folder. When I attempted to do the same for the one I wanted, it failed.
