How do you (manually) install Windows Updates?

How do you like to (manually) install Windows Updates?

This question is not for those that have Windows Updates set to Automatically download and install...

When you are looking at a long list of Important Updates (this coming Tuesday clearly in mind) there are usually different types of update: Critical, Important, Moderate. There are also sub-program updates: IE, .NET, etc.
But also consider when you first install the OS, when there are 20 or 30 updates to catch up on.

Do you:

1. Install all the updates at once.
2. Install them in batches according to type.
3. Install them in batches according to date.
4. Install them in batches x at a time.
5. Install them one at a time.
6. Other.

i'm lazy, i generally do it all in one go. i suppose that's what the auto option would do.

seems to work ok, just a bit slow - i simply leave the computer downloading and installing and keep checking progresss every now and then.

Download them and install them one by one.

I go through them one by one, and see which ones I really need, then batch D/L & install.

I hide the ones I don't want. Which is very rare.
So far a couple of bad drivers Windows insists I need.
They actually trash the installed drivers and are for a different brand of hardware. Go figure.

Step 2 after that. Batch High, medium, optional as Windows allows.
Sometimes you have to install X then reboot before Y and Z will install.

If there are only two or three small ones of different types all of them at once.

This one beware of. It will trash your SATA2 and Sata6 drivers. It replaces your drivers but of course is not compatible with JMicron or Marvell. Makes booting interesting.
Nothing on my mobo is Accusys.
I have it hidden. If I delete it Windows will try to download and install again and again....

Hopalong: I've never seen or received that Update from MS. I suspect it is (incorrectly) targeted to your hardware configuration. That is curious.

I too rarely install driver updates from Windows Update if there is one at the Vendor's website. I also just hide them.

I too rarely install driver updates from Windows Update if there is one at the Vendor's website. I also just hide them.

I think it is because I have a Marvell SATA6 controller. If you don't have that controller you probably never will see it.
It just made me leery of ALL auto updates after that.

All at once for me, on existing boxes or new builds. I only do the critical updates and such..I don't change any defaults and go for optionals and drivers.
