How I Solved Error 2203

(For Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Should be the same for other versions)

Well, I checked and full control was given to 'SYSTEM' in the installer folder, but the problem was fixed after I gave 'SYSTEM' permissions for the C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Temp

[I didn't do something right with the quote.]

Thank you, so much!! I had been going crazy trying to get the latest version of Java to install. I searched for Java-specific information, but none of the suggested fixes worked. Then I found this thread. The Installer folder already had SYSTEM having full control. The temp folder did not. I added SYSTEM and then gave it full control. Once that was done, the install worked perfectly. Thank you, again!

Guys, let me say one thing... I just went out of my mind with this issue but it ended up being that I had to disable anti-virus (Kaspersky). Same error 2203. It was 100% just an antivirus issue. Just a heads up for people to check/disable your antivirus before trying to install office.

Thanks for this fix it worked for me

As of a week ago I could not upgrade Skype, ITunes and could not uninstall Winzip18

After adding System to the properties of C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Temp I was able to upgrade

It amazes me that after you identified this fix 4 years ago that Microsoft permits the removal of system from it properties of this folder. I ran the fixit program prior and it did not resolve this issue

Thank you again for your resolution of the error 2203 problem

I had to make an account to reply to this thread but um....
I did everything right, as far as I know. At first I couldn't find the Windows Installer folder, but then it showed up suddenly(which was weird) and so I did what needed to be done but I'm still getting the error!
It's very frustrating, I'm following all the steps correctly on installing the game and did this now but it's still not working....

This Works Also

I would recommend a little app called Take Ownership. It makes it easy to click and change the permissions with one click. I struggled with the 2302 error on a brand new install of Win 7 Ultimate. Adobe and some other applications would not install. Going to the locations mentioned in the first post (after un-hiding operating system files in Tools-Folder Options-View) the mentioned folders were visible.

I have the permissions enabled though. I triple checked and more. All my files have been un-hidden for over a year now too, so that's not a problem. As far as I know, I did everything right and all the permissions have been given but I'm still getting the error, which is the problem. I've been following the wiki word by word too so I have no idea what else it could be

If you use Take Ownership, you can remedy the install errors one by one, if necessary. I used it to install Adobe Reader and it took 8 individual clicks to finally get all the pesky sub folders permission.

Is it possible for you to link me to this software/app? I did a search for "Take Ownership app" and I'm not finding anything....

As someone else mentioned: where is c:\windows/installer? I have 150 'installer' files in my Windows 7 64-bit. But no file just named "installer". Maybe that's my problem with getting an error last time I tried to install vaio care.

After a Microsoft update some 6 months or more ago, I was no longer able to use Paint Shop Pro software, nor another graphics software. I also cannot use WinZip, cannot download pdf files from the internet, IE crashes when I open files. So I'm trying to fix a bit at a time and thought this may be the cause of at least the problem with the installer - but annot locate a file so named.

I think I'm better off reinstalling Windows 7 and not connecting to the internet with this computer.

Hi azhot, welcome to the forum :)

In my small business I have 5 PC and 2 laptops.
The 5 rigs have never been connected to the web (one beast is 2003 XP) and all are clean ... still.
The 2 laptops are specifically for internet connection, only. emails, surfing and downloads, and virus/malware scanning.

Best arrangement I ever made. The only problems I get are the internet connected machines.

Thank you thank you thank you! I could not update my JAVA (wisely or unwisely I decided to update it because certain things were not working right online), and I spent 2 hours trying various methods recommended by Oracle and other sites - all to no avail. THIS worked for me! Problem solved! Thanks again!

Okay maybe I spoke too soon... YES, the procedure above fixed my Windows 7 problem of not being able to update to the newest Java.
BUT now my Windows Update quit working.
I'm only assuming that it had something to do with this, maybe it didn't but it seems awfully coincidental that after I did this I am not not able to update Windows via the Windows Update utility.
Here's what happens:
I choose the updates I want to install and then it just sits there for 30 minutes saying (paraphrasing here) "0 percentage of 7 updates downloaded".
I tried just downloading ONE 3mb update and waited like 5 min. and still nothing. Normally a 3mb download would be done in under a minute.
So it seems to me my Windows Update is broken for some reason...??? and I can only imagine it had something to do with the above, as it was working a week or so ago.

Hello, it is more than likely not your computer.
There is a huge influx of Win 7 operators with slow update issues.
Take a look.
