Background to my post:

I come from Finnish Lapland, above the Arctic Circle, where our ancestors followed their reindeer herd all around the mountains, all around the year, earlier in so called Lapp's sledge pulled by a reindeer, later in snowmobile. The work was hard and they carried with them as little as possible, often having same clothes on 24/7 until they could shortly visit home.

According to an old saying, there are two things a Lapp does not want to change: Midnight Sun in the summer and Northern Light in the winter.

I was studying and archiving some photos, and stumbled upon this pic of a Lapp in a traditional national costume:



A moment later i saw that pic Dennis posted and started to laugh aloud remembering my father's joke about Aslak (typical Lapp name) who could let you to sleep with his wife but not allow you even to be close to his heard leader reindeer, never changing clothes or socks.

Kari that picture you posted reminds me forcibly of the traditional Image of Father Christmas' (or Santa if your American) Elves. I'm guessing that's where it originally came from, as Father Christmas is meant to live in Lapland

I got Monday, Tuesday, etc socks for my (56th) birthday this year. What a rubbish present. You have to be constantly paranoid and vigilant in case you casually cross your legs to reveal Fridays socks on Tuesday.
Even if they were clean on that morning people still think you have a personal hygiene problem.
Plain colours are best, black or brown. Nobody knows how long you have been wearing them and if you buy sixpacks the one legged sockmonster is not so much of a problem
