How to avoid Explorer double selection - file and folder?

When there is Windows Explorer directory tree on left and files on right panel, it is possible to click and select/mark file on right panel, while folder name on left panel remains also selected.
It's rather dangerous option, because when trying to delete single file instead whole folder may be deleted.
Happened to me during years many times...:devil:

Is this a feature or bug of Windows 7,8,10?
What is the purpose of this behavior?
How to disable this option that also folder name remains selected?

In my case I select the folder then the file in the right window, I deleted the file and the folder is still there intact.
But you can still go to the bin and restore the file.

yes, it's how things are expected to be normally.
Unfortunately there exists opposite version of this action.

You are in the folder, you find and select a file to delete, next you may use shift+delete (instant permanent delete, to save disk space) or just accept Windows message that this file name is too long to be placed in recycle bin (... for recovery) and therefore Windows must delete this permanently (without moving to recycle bin for possible recovery).

That is the case I have noticed and avoided successfully hundreds of time in time but still failed 3-4 times during years. Results are always disastrous.

(due to personal long time experiences with Windows instability, of course I have some backup to recover from worst case scenario)
But there still is question, how to disable this feature or bug.
