Hi, I have 5 case fans which are always running at full speed, I don't know why but they're not connected to my PSU, they are connected to the motherboard. I have a Gigabyte 78LMT and I use a few adapters to connect all my fans. I've tried using speedfan but I couldn't figure out how to use it properly. Please help, my computer sounds like a jet engine :(

I know in some BIOS settings there is a quiet and cool fan option. Have you checked in there?

I have this same motherboard. There's only one 3-pin case fan connector, and one 4-pin CPU fan connector.
If you've connected all five case fans together to the single 3-pin connector, you need to be careful that you're not pulling too much current through that one connector.

I did find settings in the BIOS for fan control, but they only apply to the CPU fan and are not adjustable for different speeds and temperatures as on other boards. If you want to control CPU fan speeds and temperatures, Gigabyte's EasyTune utility works.

Ebay have lots of 3.5 and 5.25 front mounting fan controllers as would all the best pc shops. There are also rear brackets with up to 4 potentiometers if you don't have any room at the front. Just a simple speed control will work, you just slow the fans till the annoying whine disappears. Remember to monitor temps just in case. Check with the side off the case to be sure the fans are actually turning. Investing in top quality fans may pay dividends as they are better designed than most fans which come already fitted to cases.

This is the best solution IMHO, fan controllers run from sub $20 to $250 plus. AeroCool has several digital controllers that are very affordable with fan rpm and temperature readouts. I have the X-Vision in my haf922 and it's been running for almost a year now. I wasn't sure how such a low cost unit would hold up, so far, so good.

I can think of two options.
1. A fan controllers.
2. Quieter fans.
**In line resistors will work to slow the fans down but don't allow you to adjust the fans if need be.

Thanks for the response guys, I've just ordered a fan controller from Ebuyer, hopefully this will allow me to adjust the speeds!

A 4-pin CPU fan is probably required to take advantage of the speed-control feature. This is the case with the GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0 F2 (Socket M2) motherboard.

"...my computer sounds like a jet engine." I have my desktop fan set for max-speed at all times. Heat being an enemy of electronics, I would much rather hear jet engines all day rather than someday hear the sound of a mobo sky-frying [cue Asteraoid movie].

RolandJS,
Start with replacing all your fans with quality low noise fans like Noctua's or other quiet fan brands. Or you can also consider programs like speed fan or place an inline resistor to back the full speed down, expect only a couple of degree increase but many db reduction !

Hi RolandJS.

I agree with linnemeyerhere.
Quality fan is the proper starting place. The fans recommended have a good reputation for being quality and quiet.

I use Noctua fans and Phantek case fans on the system in my specs. Their are 14 of them running at 100% all the time and the system is quiet.

What case fans are you using and what CPU cooler are you using?
