No you cant. Ports in laptops meant to output video data. You may try out some HDMI to USB converters in Amazon or ebay.

Hi, Welcome to SF.

You can use an external monitor for solving the purpose.

When you hook up a laptop to an external monitor you have to press a few buttons in order to change the output from the internal monitor screen to an external monitor. To do this start u your laptop, and press and hold the function key which is the letters "fn" inside a box. Press and hold this with the corresponding F# key that has the monitor symbol, which may look like this " lOl " or some variation of that.

Hope this helps!!

Broken screen on laptop

For anyone who has a broken screen on a laptop and wants to see their data via another method:

I have a small projector. When you connect it to the laptop via HDMI port, it will project an image of whatever the laptop screen is projecting onto a wall. That way you can remove any data from the laptop before sending it off for repair or binning it, as is the case with mine.

I have a Samsung Laptop 510R with the Brookstone 801143 mini projector :D

That's a nice device, what's the brightness/screen projection size like?

Projector

Hello,

I can get the screen size to go about 72 inches x at least 48 inches and I can safely say I feel like I am in the cinema. I highly recommend it. I imagine that there are newer versions, so I assume they could be even better. As for the sound, I recommend the Sennheiser HDR170 cordless headphones to round off the experience...:D

Just to get back on topic, I forgot to mention previously that when the projector is connected, the computer screen displays at once, without all that faffing around with pressing keys on the laptop to display on another screen for example...(not that you could see the commands on the laptop screen anyway, since in my case. the screen is damaged...)
