Solved How to create a partition?

Hi i am trying to create a new partition on my hard drive but i get an error saying that i cant, here is a screenshot, when i right click on the 39,06 Gb and create new volume it tells me at the end that there is not enough space,i dont understand

Hello Fliint,

You may be able to use METHOD 2 in the tutorial below to create a logical partition with the unallocated space.

When you click on a partition to create, what are you clicking on?

You should follow Brink's advice in post number 2 and use Partition Wizard bootable disc, not Windows Disk Management.

You need to create logical partitions.

Yeah, that is cuckoo also. It needs to be marked C.

Not sure why it is not by default.

True, there should be drive letters for the Windows 7 partition.

@Fliint,

Is it giving you drive letters in the Computer window? If not, then you need to assign C to your 228.87 Go partition.

@Flint, you can`t do anything with your operating system partition, leave it alone.

What do you have on the 18 and 10 GB partitions ? Can you delete them ?

I think that i have the toshiba recovery on one partition, and the other one is like recovery for windows i think

I only have one 320gb HD wich is C:, the drive is split in 4 partitions as you can see on my first screenshot, now i am unable to create a new partition to install another OS

The first thing I'd do is get that largest partition a drive letter. The one with 228 GB.

Then, use Partition Wizard to create logical partitions.

Post another picture of Disk Management or Partition Wizard, showing that the drive has the C drive letter.

There is no need to make C logical.

But that space next to it that you want to make into another partition must be logical.

Whatever you do, don't say yes to "dynamic" partitions.

Go is french for Gigabyte. That will probably help your understanding of his diskmanagement display.

His "c:" drive does have a name. A system drive by any other name smells as sweet (to abuse a common saying).

HOW TO POST A SNAPSHOT OF DISK MANAGEMENT DISPLAY
Run disk management:
WIN | type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
This method gives you a display without the unneeded navigation pane.
WIN=key with Microsoft logo on top.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
Maximize the output of Disk Management:
ALT-Spacebar key combo | X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field.


Make a snapshot:
WIN | type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.
File | Save as | select save location and name | Save
