Hello...
How to delete "avast! Antivirus" from task manager...
My problem is that this program in the task manager was left over from a
hard drive that died...
All the files are gone except for the part of the program left in the task manager
I have turned the services off but want to get rid of it...
C Cleaner see's it but can't remove it...
Here is what C cleaner see's...
Missing Startup Software "g:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\AvastUI.exe" /nogui HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Is there a way to delete the program from windows 7 pro x 64...Thanks...

Thanks for the comeback bear... But it did not work... There is no avest folder in the pc so the tool... can't delete the file...
The avest file used to recite in g: drive and it died so I replaced it with a new one but there is a file some where on c drive
that windows task manager is seeing... I have looked for it in the directory but it's not there...
I did find this...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\avast
DisplayName REG_SZ avast! Free Antivirus
DisplayVersion REG_SZ 6.0.1367.0
InstallLocation REG_SZ "g:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5"
InstallSource REG_SZ "g:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\setup"
Publisher REG_SZ AVAST Software
VersionMajor REG_DWORD 0x6
VersionMinor REG_DWORD 0x0
DisplayIcon REG_SZ g:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\avastUI.exe
UninstallString REG_SZ g:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\aswRunDll.exe "g:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setiface.dll"
But when I try to track it down on the registry editor there is nothing in the uninstall/avest

Also found this...
C:\PerfLogs\System\Diagnostics\GARCIA-1-PC_20110828-000001\Startup Settings.xml

- <Item>
<Data name="registryKeysKey">HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\avast5</Data>

<Data name="registryKeysType">1</Data>
<Data name="registryKeysLookupResult">0x0</Data>
</Item>

At this point the real search starts. Things I would do if it was my computer. Try at your own risk.

It might be in msconfig/Startup and because it starts you can't delete it.
Many things don't run in Safe Mode and can be deleted.
It also might be in msconfig Non Microsoft Services running.

Now that you found it, do a Safe Boot and try to find it again and remove it.
Here is a little program I use to find and remove things if they are not running.
Everything Search.

Everything Search Engine

You could also use regedit and find anything Avast and remove it.

If you need help doing any of these things just ask, we are open 24/7.

If all the above solutions offered fail to work, you could try reinstalling free Avast & then using the Avast removal tool suggested by Layback Bear in Post #2. Doing this may get rid of your Avast bits hanging around.
If you decide to try this, disable your existing anti virus before installing Avast & then follow with the removal process.

Ok Guys... Got it...
What I did was started on safe mod...
I had C cleaner installed so I figured I'd give it a shot in safe mod...
I scanned the registry C Cleaner saw it... Then I right clicked on the avest left over file and clicked open in registry...C cleaner took me right to it ... Then I
right clicked the file in the registry and hit delete and wala it was gone...
This might help some one down the line... The trick is to start windows on safe mod... Thank you all for all the help...R.R.G...

Raner I take it you read my #4 post.

Now that you found it, do a Safe Boot and try to find it again and remove it.

Did you also take a look at this program? It might help in the future.

Side note... Damn Microsoft if ain't one thing it's another...
When I went to boot in safe mode f8 did not do anything... Well I was not to worried at the time because windows 7 was working Ok... So I safe booted with Msconfig... But then I started thinking about what if my windows 7 messes up and I need to use safe mod... I was going to be in deep shit... So I got on the stick and found a solution works great...
Found it in your site... Here it the link...

But since I could not get to the windows 7 task manager I did not know if was in there so...Back to beating the bushes to fix the problem... I found this worked great also... The reason I posted this is because it might help some one down the line...
