I am facing problem in my laptop, I'm having dualboot of Windows 10 and Windows 7. I installed Ubuntu 17.04 in external HDD and using the same for few days. later I removed Ubuntu from external HDD but I am unable to clear OS Ubuntu boot option from Boot menu. I tried bcdedit command, used easybcd and msconfig but it is not getting removed.
Any suggestion for how to clear it.....

Hi Ashu,

Sounds like Ubuntu has become the Active(primary) OS
You need to make 7/10 the active OS then remove it.

from geeks to go

When you install a dual-boot of Ubuntu, one of the frustrating things that you’ll immediately notice is that Ubuntu is now set as the default operating system in the Grub loader. There’s an easy way to switch back to using Windows as the default.

To make this change, you’ll first have to boot into Ubuntu, and then run the following command:
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
Find this section of the file:
## default num
# Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. Numbering starts from 0, and
# the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used.
#
# You can specify ‘saved’ instead of a number. In this case, the default entry
# is the entry saved with the command ‘savedefault’.
# WARNING: If you are using dmraid do not change this entry to ‘saved’ or your
# array will desync and will not let you boot your system.
default 0
The important line is the last one. You will need to change that number 0 to match the Windows boot section. Typically it’s always going to be 4 on a default dual-boot configuration. Change this value to 4, and then save and reboot your machine. You should go into Windows instead of Ubuntu automatically.
Note: The blocks at the bottom of the file match the items in the menu. You can change this value to match whichever item you want as default, just remember that numbering starts at 0.

Hello Mr. Roy,
Thank you for your prompt response.
Actually I have HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 10 (Home) by default and with this dual booted Windows 7.
I'd installed Ubuntu 17.04 on an external hard drive.
So whenever I like to work on linux, just plugged in that external hard drive and start working.
But now due to some reason I completely removed Ubuntu 17.04 from external hard drive and work with my dual boot Windows.
When I just gone into boot option menu I found Ubuntu OS for booting choice. I work around all ways like bcdedit, msconfig and easybcd none of this method word. This is the problem... any suggestion or solution for this problem.

Is your Laptop BIOS a Legacy - MBR or UEFI - GPT?

If you disconnect the external HDD (With Ubuntu), do you still has a Grub boot menu?

We have to find where is Grub, on the main drive or on the external disk.

"When I just gone into boot option menu I found Ubuntu OS for booting choice." The boot option is in a windows boot loader menu or on Grub?

My laptop bios is a UEFI-GPT type.
And the boot option of Ubuntu OS is in Windows boot loader.
No there is no Grub boot menu. I removed Ubuntu from external disk also.
Any solution in this situation.
